I do not recall the appropriate way to butter bread, but I did get the Bonne Maman jam advent calendar and am going to start it soon (since as a single person I can’t eat a tiny jam every day for 24 days!). AND I have volunteered to put together a butter tasting (taste off?) for a friend. Testing a bunch of different butters.

Days shrink and grow cold, sunlight through leaves is my song. Winter is long.

I miss the Danish butter we had in Germany. There was some embargo or something on US butter so the commissary stocked it from Denmark. When someone says "sweet butter" as opposed to salt butter--Danish butter is actually so light and fresh it's almost sweet.

In public I break bread in half to butter it--a roll or biscuit, separate top from bottom, and I butter each so the butter melts and soaks in. Toast, if it isn't cut, I cut or tear in half and butter each half, again while the toast is warm so the butter melts in. If that's uncouth, then so be it. I like my butter melty.

I remember the crazy days. 500 posts an hour. Nubmer! Natgbsb

-t I am your wfh twin today.

I was hoping for a slow day so I could crank on some paper processing, but the phone has been pretty much non-stop ringing. BOO!

I also plan on taking lots of breaks, so those phone calls better stop. I am working from the basement, so I can start moving myself out of the basement through the day.

Mac will be down here for at least two weeks, as I have cousins coming for a visit 9/16 and they will have the guest room. Makes no sense for him to stay in the guest room one week and then move down here.

I think the basement will be better for him anyway. private entrance, his own toilet and sink, his own tv, and super conducive to sleep which I think he will need a lot of at first. My guess is that his brain has been in fight/flight/freeze mode for months.

I must obey the inscrutable exhortations of my soul—Calvin and Hobbs

I think if you're not picking up sticks or pats of butter with your fingers and gnawing on them in the restaurant (what you do at home is your own business) you're fine.

I've had a pint of my favorite Ben & Jerry's (coffee toffee crunch) in the freezer since last Friday afternoon, and I'm not even halfway through it. Should I call a doctor or a priest? 54 seems a little late to be developing restraint.

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

That sounds like a pretty good arrangement for an adult child coming home to regroup

A butter tasting sounds fun! I have splurged on expensive fancy butter from grass-fed cows that lived in spa like luxury or something on occasion, out of curiosity, and it really did taste pretty amazingly good. And hooray tiny jams!

It’s opened but not finished, Calli? How unusual for B&J!

The plan is to buy various butters fancy and not (gotta decide if I include the ridiculous $12 a pound goat butter from the co-op??) including one my friend has to special order from her local CSA, and then do a blind tasting, for her birthday. But we didn’t manage to order the CSA one in time (we were camping without cell reception) so it’s delayed until next week.

Tiny jam of the day (spoiler for the advent calendar?) was rhubarb strawberry spread

I ate it on a crumpet and it was tasty.

But I swear lately every time I eat anything (but especially in the morning?) my stomach hurts (like, stomach cramps feeling?). Usually it passes after a little bit and sometimes it’s fine but….wtf body.

It really does.

Yes. I've opened it a few times since I bought it, eaten a few spoonfulls of ice cream, enjoyed the heck out of them, and then just . . . put it back? In the freezer? Apparently that's a thing one can do. Who knew?

That sounds unpleasant. I hope you can get it resolved soon.

Ugh on the stomach hurting, meara. That doesn't sound good. Eating is not supposed to be painful.

The jam spoiler, otoh, does sound good.

Possibly a sign of the end times, Calli? Not hardly a surprise at this point, if it is.

Our wings are not tired.

The jam sounds super tasty. The most extravagant I get with butter is to buy it locally here from the Amish stands. Tasty and comes in blocks that fit well in my butter crock (since I can leave it out up in NY).

That sounds like an excellent solution, msbelle.

I'm concerned. You might need an intervention.
