Nice! I discovered steel cut oats way too late in life. A lot of my mornings could've been way better, is what I'm saying.
Natter 77: I miss my friends. I miss my enemies. I miss the people I talked to every day.
Off-topic discussion. Wanna talk about corsets, duct tape, butt kicking, or physics? This is the place. Detailed discussion of any current-season TV must be whitefonted.
(I prefer rolled oats to steel cut. Not worth the extra cost, IMHO)
I also prefer rolled oats, generally, but congrats, Dana! A perfect breakfast is a thing of beauty.
I like the texture of rolled oats better than steel cut oats, but if someone made me steel cut oats I wouldn't turn them down.
Today's mystery: why is the cat walking around yodeling mournfully? The reasons could include (but are not limited to): he is a cat, he saw a bug he can't get, he saw another cat outside, he expected to see another cat outside but there was no cat, he ate all his wet food and now it is gone, 11:15 a.m. is yodeling time, no apparent reason, and he knows it drives me nuts when he yodels for no apparent reason.
All of the above?
Y'all can have all the oats.
(And all the raisins, not that they were mentioned. And especially all the oatmeal raisin cookies.)
I prefer grits, myself. With butter, and a little soy sauce.
I do rolled oats sometimes too, or put them in a topping for a baked good. But the grocery store with bulk goods sells a pound of steel cut for $2.19.
Edit: Whoa, man, no one mentioned raisins. I would never put them in oatmeal. Or anything.

I love grits! I have them with butter and salt, so maybe I'll swap out the salt for soy sauce. V. intrigued!
One of my favorite grits dishes to make is a ripoff from Waffle House: grits with butter and some cheese, with scrambled eggs and diced sausage on top. Also good with diced tomatoes or salsa. (This is all in one bowl.)
God, now I want that for lunch.
In the winter I like steel-cut oats with crumbled breakfast sausage and just a little bit of maple syrup.
Mmm, grits. One of my favorite uses for the Instant Pot.
