I'm terrifically busy with my ennui.

I do rolled oats sometimes too, or put them in a topping for a baked good. But the grocery store with bulk goods sells a pound of steel cut for $2.19.

Edit: Whoa, man, no one mentioned raisins. I would never put them in oatmeal. Or anything.

Unusually and exceedingly peculiar and altogether quite impossible to describe

I prefer grits, myself. With butter, and a little soy sauce

I love grits! I have them with butter and salt, so maybe I'll swap out the salt for soy sauce. V. intrigued!

One of my favorite grits dishes to make is a ripoff from Waffle House: grits with butter and some cheese, with scrambled eggs and diced sausage on top. Also good with diced tomatoes or salsa. (This is all in one bowl.)

God, now I want that for lunch.

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

In the winter I like steel-cut oats with crumbled breakfast sausage and just a little bit of maple syrup.

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

Mmm, grits. One of my favorite uses for the Instant Pot.

Friends don't let friends read "Atlas Shrugged"

dcp, my sister hated raisins, so when I made oatmeal cookies for her, I substituted butterscotch chips. The recipe did include pecans, which she was OK with, so it wasn't a major change to the recipe.

Our wings are not tired.

Mmmm, grits. Nice spicy shrimp & grits is a favorite, but really just butter is fine too. I'll take all your raisins and oatmeal raisin cookies too!

The butterscotch chips were good. I like raisins well enough, but I do prefer the cookies with the chips.

When my brother lived in a smallish town in west Texas, he ordered grits at the local diner and asked for cheese to be added. The cook and everyone, apparently, looked at him like he was nuts but obliged him. Thereafter, every time he went there to eat he was greeted with "Cheese grits!" like Norm at Cheers.

Mmmm, cheese grits. I didn't eat grits until I was well into my 20s because not a thing in NY when I was raised. It took some effort to talk me into trying them in Virginia, but it was love at first taste.

Ditto (we'll, butter and salt). And butterscotch chips in there would also make me happy. In the cookies, that is.
