Sometimes he's out in the garage working on his truck (allegedly), and sometimes he really is out running errands, but mostly his TV volume is cranked up to an insane level. Like, however loud you're imagining, it's louder than that.* So he doesn't hear the fucking phone when it rings, even when it's right next to him.
Its no magical fix of course, but this might be helpful, Tep [link]

We were talking about that! (Also wondering if we could rig up an electric shock whenever the phone rings, because we are also bad kids.)
Didn't Frasier want to rig up a shock in order to pop his dad out of the barcolounger like toast from a toaster?
My brother has successfully talked to Dad, who thinks that he (Dad) set up the appointment. So we're just going to roll with that, since he's apparently very amenable to going to the appointment. (He told my brother that the hallucinations haven't been as bad lately, and then said he knows they're real and not actually hallucinations because they steal from him. [SPOILER: this is not true. Everything he says was stolen turns up in his apartment, generally in a closet.])
That appointment is going to SUCK and I am going to need to be filled with tacos and Ativan afterward. I'm changing my bet on Dad going directly from the appointment to a psych ward from 50-50 to 65-35 in favor of the psych ward.
Jeepers, Tep. I hope they can get your dad some kind of help, and I help the tacos and Ativan help you.
Um, he isn't still working, is he?
Um, he isn't still working, is he?
He is not. I'm not sure if that's good or bad, because I think the socialization aspect of it was good for him. But it's probably for the best that he's not working.
Yeah, I see what you mean.

We used a video Alexa so we could actually shout at him sometimes. I mean, we got it for more reasons but that turned out to be a handy one a few times. Or the Ring doorbell, if he happened to be out in the yard.
