Mal: Yeah, well, just be careful. We cheated Badger out of good money to buy that frippery, and you're supposed to make me look respectable. Kaylee: Yes, sir, Captain Tightpants.

Life moves pretty fast. You don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.

I just booked tickets to spend a week in the Berkshires visiting two very old friends. One is my best friend from college in the 70s and thereafter, and the other who I became friends with in NYC in the 90s. Looking forward to hanging out with them. Cool women hanging out in a rural setting, should be fab!

Fandom means never having to say "But where would I wear that?"

Timelies all!

Well, the con is over. I’m not sure when all of us will next be at a con. Gary’s been thinking of eating the cost of the memberships for Worldcon for Mr. S and him, given the behavior we’ve been seeing on this trip. I am still going to go, but Gary and Mr. S may not. Sigh…

"There are few hours in life more agreeable than the hour dedicated to the ceremony known as afternoon tea."

Scrappy, we were in the Berkshires a couple of weeks ago and there is some great stuff at MassMoca if you have the time.

{{{Sheryl}}}. I’m so sorry.

Hec, I’m sorry about Pickles.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

How cool! My friend has a family cabin up there is always making a run to Moltenbrey's for meats.

Hec, I’m sorry about Pickles.

We were heavy hearted about it but the woman at Animal Control who took Pickles in asked a lot of questions about her behavior and didn't seem to think she'd have a problem placing Pickles. She said some unspayed females are extremely territorial and that's what happened with Pickles & Prubs.

She said Pickles would do better in a house with either a neutered male, or solo, but she'd be adoptable because she's so tractable and comfortable with humans. Also she's really cute.

Bob's learned to live with tragedy, but he knows that this tragedy is one that won't ever leave him or get better.

They'll make a note to her file

Finding the right place is what everyone involved wants for Pickles. Whether solo or neutered male. You weren't her suitable home but she has one. And she'll find it.

Everyone finds their home.

Our wings are not tired.

Sounds like some nice weekends.

{{Sheryl}} I'm sorry that your plans need to be changed.

Sorry Pickles didn't work out, but a good home will be found. We've had to do that before and it is hard.

We had a busy and fun weekend. Went to my SIL's place outside NYC and went to see A Chorus Line in an outside park environment. It was good fun. After the show I had to look up the bio of the man who was clearly the best dancer on stage. It ended up that he wasn't experienced at all and it was his first show with the ensemble. He was a choreographer with a high school. Older, with a pot belly, and absolutely glided on the stage. (eta: he played the assistant Larry) Also a delightful surprise, the sound was perfect. All too often musicals with live orchestras outdoors just don't get the vocal/music balance right at all, and the sound people knocked it out of the park, so to speak. DH let them know it was noticed and appreciated.

That sounds fun, Laura.

We had a good weekend with some friends thrown in, and tonight we're having dinner with another friend whose good friend is visiting from Paris -- she's an acquaintance of mine, so it will be fun to see her after 30 years.

Now I'm going to go "work from zoom" with my buddy, Dave. I have many things to write today, so wish me muses, I guess.

A consoling thought.

Muse-ma!

Today is Amy Garvey's first day on her new job, so wish her easy orientation.

I was just reading the NYT piece on the B-52s who are doing their last tour (they're not retiring as such -just no longer doing tours. Which is fair considering several of their members are in their 70s). Just a fantastic, queer, talented batch of party weirdos who came completely out of left field and made a lot of people happy for a long time.

I knew that Ricky Wilson & Keith Strickland had been lovers in the early 70s and then best friends by the time the band formed. I didn't realize that Keith was the only person that Ricky told he had AIDS, and even forbade Keith from telling Cindy Wilson (Ricky's sister). So heartbreaking.

Really a series of unlikely miracles that they came together, that they were an immediate hit, that they survived Ricky's death, that they hit mainstream commercial success. Here's to the people that put on wigs and dance around at parties.
