They did do a nice job!
Natter 77: I miss my friends. I miss my enemies. I miss the people I talked to every day.
Off-topic discussion. Wanna talk about corsets, duct tape, butt kicking, or physics? This is the place. Detailed discussion of any current-season TV must be whitefonted.
Yes, but when the professions were codified, teachers were predominantly female and professors were predominantly male. Women are supposed to work long hours, for little pay, and no time for intellectual expansion (intellect? in those pretty little heads?) because it's all For The Children. Professors are doing serious mental work and need to be supported in it, dontchaknow.
I heart Calli. This is all true. It's also, though, a product of funding. Most K-12 schools don't have the resources to pay someone on sabbatical. I am certain my school would be more than happy to grant me a one-year leave of absence and save my job for me, but I wouldn't have a salary or health care, so...
Also, I am about to start my 26th year in the classroom. OMGWTFHOW
I mean, don’t knock a leave of absence if you can do COBRA (and possibly earn a little money some other way?) Though a year would likely be too long/hard to handle for money (though maybe not for sanity-restoration)
COBRA would be almost $1000/month on top of no salary (and we need every penny of what I make). But someday I will retire! So I'm thinking about that.
I was trying to figure out how to do some kind of sabbatical when I hit 7 years here, maybe not a full year but some extended time off, but that was 2020-2021 so that became no time off ever...
Heh, no, I think it's just Thursday.
My immediate reaction on seeing this was "but it's not Thursday" so that should tell you where my head is at. Or at least where it is not. I don't even know what day I think it is.
I think it's just Thursday.
"I never could get the hang of Thursdays."
At the airport. There are a few more people here wearing masks than at the grocery store, I guess.
I still don't understand people.
People cannot be understood.
Sitting waiting for AG Garland to say what he has to say. I generally never watch tv live, but making an exception.
Timelies all!
It’s been interesting so far. I did most of the driving yesterday, so Gary could sit in the back with Mr. S. Things were going reasonably well in the morning, and for a bit after lunch. We stopped at the Corning Glass Museum, where we saw glass-blowing and glass-breaking exhibits. Didn’t see much else, as Mr. S was bored and insisted on us buying him a not-terribly cheap ring. Then the GPS sent us to Buffalo via farm country, with no food options for dinner. This was when Mr. S started in with the violent aggression. We had to pull over a couple of times before we got to our hotel and the McDonald’s next to it. After dinner, more meltdowns and I went to sit in the lobby until small boy was asleep.
Today we went to Niagara Falls. We rode the Maid of the Mists(and Wonderfalls did come to mind), had lunch and went to the Aquarium. Came back here and now Gary and Mr. S are at the pool.
Maid of the Mists is such a wonderous ride! I hope tonight and the rest of the trip goes well.
