I saw somewhere someone saying "40C is not that hot" and they are stupendously wrong, that is way too hot
There are conspiracy theorists on Twitter claiming that the temperature color maps of the UK have been CHANGED to make them LOOK SCARIER and every meteorologist has responded "Well, we did change them slightly to help colorblind viewers but mostly we've just never had to use these colors before because it's incredibly fucking hot"
The base temps in NY aren't quite as bad as in the UK but our "feels like" temps are over 100 and will get worse all week. I'm really hoping we don't lose power.
And definitely take a nap if you need one. Your body clearly needs rest!!
I may need to! Dog woke me up at 5 AM making a fuss. Then a couple minutes later two booms (sounded like a rifle). I don't know if maybe my neighbor up the hill had a bear or something, but it seems unlikely he was randomly shooting 2 shots at that hour for no good reason. Ah, life in the Adirondacks.
It's 82 here today! Which is pretty remarkable since almost no one has AC. I closed the windows this morning and it is very shaded here so comfortable enough.
Not quite as comfy for the guys doing the excavation work. Watching the work once again makes me regret never being a heavy equipment operator. Looks like so much fun.
My parents managed to be in London for this heat wave.
How, uh, lucky? Dang. Hope they can stay cool.
Yikes. I hope they have cool accommodations.
My neighbor stopped to chat with the workers so I asked him if he was the one who woke my dog at 5AM. Yep, had a coyote who was causing an issue, but apparently won't be in the future.
40C = 104F. There is no place on the planet where that's not considered hot. I don't care how low your humidity is.
It's not that bad here, but I don't understand why more people aren't here in the office where the A/C is plentiful and free. Maybe more people have central air at home than I would have thought.
Aw, I like my coyote neighbors, but they keep a decent distance from the houses most of the time.
Oh, I forgot to report that I went shopping after work last night at Home Depot, Ross, and Marshalls, which tells you a lot about my lifestyle, but what makes it a story is that Ross gives "seniors" (defined as anyone over 55) a 10% discount on Tuesdays, which I noticed on my way in and somewhat sadly calculated that I have a couple years to go. As I'm checking out my cashier asked me if I qualified for the discount and I said no, not quite but when I grabbed my bags I didn't pick up my receipt so she chased me down with it at the exit and whispered as she handed it to me "I gave it to you anyway"
I'm not sure how to feel about it. Mostly amused.
I am having a rather uneventful summer. no trips so far and it looks likes we might not go anywhere. I am almost done sanding our huge, decrepit deck. I am using a hand sander and it’s taken a couple of weeks. next, staining it and standing around feeling inordinately proud of myself.
I was just diagnosed with severe osteoporosis, which makes me feel very old and, frankly, annoyed. Nothing to do for it but take calcium, meds and long walks. My 66th birthday is in a couple of weeks, so I should not be surprised, but I DO NOT CARE FOR IT.
