Apparently my cousin’s kids are mad that they can’t leave the school at lunchtime. And my first thought is seriously minor aged children are allowed to just leave school at lunch and wander around wherever? Is this common these days? Isn’t the school liable if something happens to them during school hours?

At Matilda's high school only seniors are allowed off-campus at lunch.

Hec, that makes sense to me, although at my school you had to be a senior and over 18.
Back in my day, only HS seniors were allowed out of the school building, but not off school grounds, and we had to sign out.
