What should I do, then? Send her a gift? Sacrifice? … Unholy fruit basket?

I adore all you motherfuckers so much -- PMM.

Folks, can we try to get Allyson a little extra TLC over the next week or so? Her Twitter feed indicates that she's having a rough time.

Our wings are not tired.

NOT Yassss! To kidney stones! Maybe and IBS situation?

Sending loving thoughts to Allyson. I pretty much never Twitter, and am on a pretty lean FB diet so I don't see her often. eta: I am heartbroken for her as she has lost her precious Ruby.

Friends don't let friends read "Atlas Shrugged"

The house I grew up in started as mid-century (we moved in 1957 when it was new). It kind of evolved, depending on my mother's taste. We moved in during her beige period - yes, almost every wall had beige wallpaper with some kind of design ... except "my" bedroom - it was what my mother called cafe au lait (I called it brown). The kitchen counters were covered in that boomerang design, in multiple pastels. The wall oven and stove top were brown. A lot of the furniture was what my mother called "early married" - as they got new furniture, the old was passed down to me until they had the money to get me a set of furniture that actually matched.

My last apartment was in a building from 1929 (who would build a luxury apartment building in 1929?). The stove may have been original; the refrigerator was, I think, as were the cabinets; all got replaced during the years I lived there. It was in a style I can only call late high deco. At one point they were going to go condo and strip out all the period details; it's currently undergoing a complete renovation, removing the period details (crown moldings, tall baseboards, and so on) but it looks like they're doing a good job of it (as in new wiring to replace the 1929 version, new plumbing, leaks repaired, pests controlled, landscaping, etc.). Of course, since they plan to charge $4K a month for a one bedroom, it should be nice.

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

Matilda's school bestie says "Yassss!" for anything she loves, but "NOT Yassss!" is her negative.

And Double-Plus NOT Yassssss for something really, really bad, I assume?

Bay-istas, were you aware you could use fernet to make cake? [link]

I also love the celestial ceiling.

~ma to Allyson. I'm sorry she's having a rough time of it.

We are Buffistas. This isn't our first apocalypse. -- Pix

oh no, Allyson! I'm so sorry.

As for decor choices for Casa Zmayhem, can I recommend the Alameda Vintage Fair? I went last weekend and there was so MUCH stuff there, especially if you are into mid-century modern. Also just a lot of everything. Rugs, tables, chairs--so many chairs--prints, glassware, vinyl, clothing, linens from France, lots of various kinds of art, and tons and tons of tchotchkes.

I suspect it might be worth it for y'all to rent a van and get over there on the first Sunday of April, early, and you can really clean up.

See? I gave everybody here an opportunity to tell me what a bad person I am and nobody did, because I fuckin' rule.

Ooh, thanks, Suela! I already got us tickets for the Oakland Museum white elephant sale, which is happening again for the first time since 2019 and should have a TON of stuff.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

And Double-Plus NOT Yassssss for something really, really bad, I assume?

I've not heard it go that far! She's mostly very positive.

"There are few hours in life more agreeable than the hour dedicated to the ceremony known as afternoon tea."

I visited Papa yesterday, and he was in a ton of pain and it was so stressful. But they were able to get him some relief for the pain last night. They're moving him to a rehab facility today with more visiting hours. So it will be easier to go there and see him without having to have someone pick up ltc from school etc.
