"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

I wasn't planning on placing an order of sausages and pickles today...

And yet, here we are.

You know what's really good pickled? Turnips.

Hmmm. I haven't had the pleasure.

So the lender is going to send their Chonk tomorrow morning, and then we will be fully Chonky and the title and the keys come to us.

I need more opinions on those Formica laminate patterns, people!

So just to give y'all a notion of what we're getting into (literally) the new place has almost 4,000 square feet, and our current apartment has 600 square feet. Now, the new place will have tenants on the first floor so we're getting about 2,700 feet to play with.

There are differing opinions on whether we could or should put a deck on the roof. But it is an enticing thought. Worst case scenario is two Adirondack chairs and a cooler on the roof.

Side note: the tenants rent will almost cover the mortgage payment. (Though the insurance and the taxes will still cost a lot more.)

Wow that’s amazing about the tenants’ rent! I mean obviously there’s also upkeep but go you guys!

I plugged my salary into an inflation calculator and confirmed it has only changed by about $3k since 2017, after inflation, despite being a bigger number in actual dollars. And despite yknow, five more years of experience and a title increase. Booo.

Deck on the roof! Although chairs and a cooler on the roof would certainly be sufficient. I just like a roof you can hang out on. Some potted plants and you've got a swanky rooftop garden! I don't think I can help with the Formica, I am prone to liking whatever is put in front of me there. Very pro dinette set, though, and that chair is super cute. This is with the green and white floor or something else? I am sure you made that clear before but I have forgotten.

Making a mental note of pickled turnips.

They're actually way under market too since they've been there for 12 years.

We're keeping the garden apartment for ourselves so we've got an extra separated work space, and for guests and a rec room for Matilda and her friends. But the previous owners were using it as an Air BnB and made good money on it.

Something like that. Still musing, but yes the checkerboard linoleum/marmoleum tiles would be in the garden apartment, and we'd do something more Arts & Crafts in the 2nd floor flat.

I think I like the Retro Nostalgic Gray. Couldn't tell you why, but that's the one calling to me.

Our wings are not tired.

Maybe Retro Oxford pattern for the table. Maybe Retro Surf...

I like both those, and also rather fond of the Turquoise Glacier and Grey Cracked Ice.

So come, my friends, be not afraid/We are so lightly here/It is in love that we are made; In love we disappear

Honestly, I would say that for the garden apartment, you've got a wonderful opportunity to do hunting for actual vintage tables, though the Formica on those is less spectacular. They're usually pretty damn solidly built.
