Um. I'm with Dana on the news-cancelling headphones.
Can we maybe make a news thread for hard news, and save Natter for news-light conversation? I come here for sanctuary, and right now, it's not that. I care about all of you and what's going on in your lives. But I can't keep up with you if news keeps intruding.
I do keep up with the news, I'm not completely avoidant. I'd just rather not deal with it *here*. Here is where I go to set that aside for a little while and relax a bit with my friends. It's okay if you don't agree. I just thought I'd bring it up.
Drinks after work, Jesse? Wowwwww, what's that like? I don't even remember....
It's been literally two years!
Going out for drinks with friends. Ahhh, I'll just sit with that notion for a bit. Well done.
I now have noise-cancelling headphones ... they're blocking the sound of the techies doing arcane technical stuff with our servers. yay!
It’s work from home day today. I’m only one day a week wfh and have been back in the office most days for months and months.
Wfh means I can watch movies and/or knitting podcasts while doing data entry or other non-thinky work.
I’m taking advantage of being well rested and non-hectic workday to do some heavy lifting on serious movies for Oscar Watch.
I am currently in the dentist's chair waiting for a cleaning. Just a cleaning. No drills, no needles, no nothing. Practically nirvana.
Then I need to go home and get a bunch of WFH done.
And yay for drinks after work!
I hope to go out for drinks with friends again soon. There's a cider bar within walking distance, and they give some percentage of their profits to dog rescue. But they opened in 2020, so I haven't really felt able to take advantage of their presence.
I was reading an article about dentists who now have dogs - I believe they're officially called "facility dogs" - who help keep nervous patients calmer. Dogs are carefully trained to work with multiple people, not react to the dentist's drill, lie on the patient's lap, rest on a clean cover on the person's lap and happily be petted while the dentist works. If another patient is allergic or afraid, dog is put in a separate room. Cleanliness is emphasized, so everyone's safe. I'm much less afraid of dentists now, but I could have used this when I was in my 20s.
