Natter 77: I miss my friends. I miss my enemies. I miss the people I talked to every day.
Off-topic discussion. Wanna talk about corsets, duct tape, butt kicking, or physics? This is the place. Detailed discussion of any current-season TV must be whitefonted.
Calli, would your current job be do-able remotely? Or would it be “you can do it from home but for logistical/admin/tax reasons we can’t have you live in another state” kind of thing?
Oh, absolutely. I've been in the office three times since March 2020, and honestly, all of those were more for social reasons than work reasons.
I hope your dad's ok, Steph.
Also he and Morena Baccarin are married with two kids!
Huh. Well, good for them. It sounds like he's got a good head on his shoulders. (I feel 90, like I'm happy the young couple seem grounded and whatever.)
I'm glad we have a chance to replace Breyer while we're in control of things.
My dad's second test had a very clear, dark line confirming that he does in fact have Covid. But he really doesn't have any symptoms, which is really good news. Fingers crossed he stays that way.
He told me that his cell phone wasn't working, so maybe he'd go up to the store and get it fixed, and I was like PLAGUE! UNCLEAN! Jesus, Dad, you just tested positive for Covid STAY YOUR ASS HOME. How do you think it spreads????? He agreed to stay home, though. God damn, old man.
Oh, dad of Tep. I do hope he stays feeling ok, as well as remembers to stay away from people. Jeesh.
Now I do think I remember hearing about those kids getting together during Gotham. It's nice to hear that Ryan Ben [I didn't even watch the OC!] is all smart the crypto whatsits and, like, cares about people.
I think I had other stuff but I forgot.
I am trying to go through our three year vision plan so I can have feedback for tomorrow's meeting, but it's a zoom meeting with 25+ people, I doubt I will actually get a chance to talk even if I do have something to say. So far I've just got "oh, yeah, ROI is a good I always like making those back of the envelope calculations" which may or not be what they are even talking about and may or may not apply to my department, so that's how that's going.
I want to kick Mitch McConnell in the balls really hard.
Get. In. Line.
I skimmed a little of an article about a restaurant in the planning stage; they will only accept customers who have NFTs. I wonder if they have to pay in cryptocurrency.
Yikes, Tep. My dad would totally have wanted to go out as well.
I have heard that one thing to do with Rapid Tests is wait longer than they say, sometimes the line gets clearer over time.
Hec and JZ, that's an amazing place. Keep an eye on that accessway for the in-law unit, though: you'll want a lawyer/expert to review it for code compliance. Also there was a rash of bad seismic upgrades in SF recently: gas lines were run right through concrete poured to upgrade foundations, and that's a serious threat.
Good luck with bids and inspections!
I'm having trouble keeping track of the day: I'm house-sitting for my sister while she's in Costa Rica, and I haven't been to the office in over a week. So things are a little vague right now.
I wouldn't be surprised if McConnell tries to say that we should wait until after the next Presidential election to nominate and confirm a Supreme Court Justice.
M and I have been slowly watching Gotham (slowly because we seem to have lost interest, or he has) and I never watched The OC so I only know him as Jim Gordon. He and Morena Baccarin did meet on Gotham where they played a couple, although I'm in the part where they broke up. Now I'm going to have to read up about him and crypto currency because I'm interested.
In Covid news- M's BIL was feeling sick and-- he has Covid. As far as I know M's sister hasn't gotten tested. Their oldest son (senior in high school) has symptoms and went to get tested. The house is very small and very crowded and there is no way to quarantine from each other. The BIL's father lives in the house and his bed/things are in the living room & he should be on oxygen but he isn't because he wouldn't stop smoking near the oxygen tank . I don't think he'll survive if he gets covid.

Are any of them vaccinated?
I'm honestly shocked that my dad, who is 80 years old and chock full of chronic conditions, has no symptoms. He is fully vaxxed, thank god.

I would literally volunteer to go kick him in the balls. They're totally going to try the thing with the midterms, though, and the Dems fucking better not let them get away with it.
My father, who got an early breakthrough case, had very mild symptoms for only a few days.
