Hold the boundary msbelle!! If you aren’t salaried they need to pay you!!
Yay bonus Toddson!
Ok, y’all who are good with hair color help me out? I had about 2” of roots from my pink hair (which had mostly but not entirely faded). Bleached them not as much as I probably should have (wasn’t sure how long was too long to leave it) and toned. It looked ok—not the same as the rest but close, and not super yellow. However when I put on the “periwinkle” dye, the old pink bits turned out great and the roots became….sort of gray? It’s not great. So I’m trying to figure out what to do—try something darker all over? Darker just around the roots and try sort of ombré? If I go with a dark blue will that cover the gray or will it just look worse? (And if just the roots, should I do purple or blue??)
Good for you, msbelle. "Work to rule" is one of my favorite techniques.
Yay bonus, Toddson!
meara, that's tricky. Jessica is better at blue hair than I am, but I'd say shoot for the ombre look. What's the dye brand?
I don't actually know what would work but the ombre idea sounds cool
I used arctic fox periwinkle. The last time I had blue hair I used a few different manic panic colors, and found that one faded teal while another faded pink, so I’d probably use the fades-to-pink one (“shocking blue”) if I don’t go with a purple?
Just posted a photo on my Instagram story (mearagrrl) if anyones curious of the color!
Oh, yeah, I've found Arctic Fox doesn't grab onto my hair unless it's been chemically treated to within an inch of its life (but it's so pretty & it laaaaaaaaasts). I use Splat, which tends to work well even on non-bleached hair, but I've never used their blue.
I'd say use the Manic Panic fades-to-pink one and shoot for ombre.
The actual blue part of your hair is so pretty!
Thanks, yeah, the previously pink bits came oh great, just the color I wanted. So it’s just the gray that’s annoying.
Ooh, now that I've seen the periwinkle, purple would be very nice on the roots if it works. Fade to pink blue is also intriguing.
That's why Arctic Wolf sounded vaguely familiar to me - I was confusing it with Arctic Fox!

Ditto, and for the pale shades especially you're not going to get the bottle color without bleaching to platinum. (My son had neon yellow/green hair for a little while, and the pretreatment step took foreeeeever. Thank goodness he went back to hot pink.)
I generally find that any shade of bright blue + any shade of pink will blend nicely and everyone will assume you did something extremely cool on purpose.
My current shade is "random streaks of all the different blues/purples/greens I had to use up" and I looooooove it.
