I’m just over this week. I had plans to make food but somehow having the energy to grocery shop, make food, and eat food, is not possible. One per day, apparently. It’s been rainy and cold and gross here and I can’t see my friends which would usually make it better because omicron. Haaaaaate. Have done almost no work, would like it to be the weekend already.
I do not have to do my yearly eval, but instead have to fill out a document with “give an example of a time when you showed leadership/company values/will to win/whatever other stupid categories they want” and I’m supposed to remember specific times I did something great and write about it in a bunch of spots for like, the purpose of selling me to new projects? Gross.

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration
So it turns out our evals this year are just writing out 3 accomplishments and 3 areas for improvement from 2021. Which is certainly shorter than what we used to do and what I expected but is still nothing I want to do. It will be fine, I'm sure, once I am at a point where I can stop doing my actual job and think about previous times I was doing my job.

That pretty much sums it up! Yikes.
Along with the alcohol, I find self-assessments (and others' assessments, honestly) go better for me when I do it in dribs and drabs, and at least some off the clock. I definitely can't just sit down and do it straight through.

Self-evils are not a thing I've had to deal with, thankfully. Performance reviews are pretty painless. The head of the lab has basically been writing the same thing every year for the past few years. (Since that usually includes a recommendation for an award, I don't mind.)
