Natter 77: I miss my friends. I miss my enemies. I miss the people I talked to every day.
Off-topic discussion. Wanna talk about corsets, duct tape, butt kicking, or physics? This is the place. Detailed discussion of any current-season TV must be whitefonted.
I just ordered an iPhone 13 (because my SE refused to charge anymore) and now I have to go pick it up downtown, then deal with the hassle of hooking it up to my service and getting Venmo etc. up and running on it.
I got mine last week and the transition was so easy that I feel guilty! I absolutely love the new one in many ways. The one I swapped was a 6S.
Over the weekend I ordered the remaining items for my T'day prep for pickup on Tuesday afternoon. The only thing I haven't found yet is maple extract.
I took the kids shopping for gender-affirming clothes today. Lots of fun sweaters!
So fun. I love reading this.
It sounds like the response has ranged from surprised-but-kind-and-thankful-for-sharing, to family members who called T. right away to tell him he's awesome and loved and 100% supported. (I am tearing up as I'm typing this.) I'm so proud of him, and I'm so fucking happy he's gotten such a good response from the family.
This is such a beautiful update I actually got goosebumps!
Hang in there, shrift. Sending coping~ma. The world has indeed gone mad.
Please to continue the offer~ma. I am fairly calm about it because the fit is so good, and I know the universe has been kind to me since the value of the house has doubled since the last time we tried to sell it without success. But I am so ready to move on with my life.
Monday, whee?
Lots of -ma, Laura. The housing market is always so fraught but I hope you get a good offer.
Teppy, you and Tim always make me happy. And with such love and support, these kids will thrive and grow into decent human beings.
This shopping trip was so amazing. Usually, Robin is on edge—driven by society’s expectations, and nervous.
This time, though, she happily shopped in the women’ sections of all the stores we went into. I think she has my attachment to Athleta’s athleisure wear. Also, thank the stars for H&M for having such affordable clothes.
Do you also have a trans kid, Cashmere? My younger daughter, Ellie (formally Leif), is trans. Speaking of which she has accepted a job offer as a software engineer at the company she interned for. It seems crazy that she has a professional job at age 19.
I think I know where she gets her talent, Gud!
Also, I have realized that it is really hard to get a Covid test if you don’t drive, because everything is drive through.
I know this probably isn't an option everywhere, but I was able to get 4 at-home Covid tests delivered by Walgreens same-day. (They aren't free, and they have a higher false positive rate than a PCR test, but they were hella convenient.)
It's wonderful hearing all the Buffista stories of trans family members being loved and accepted!
Seeing M and his mom's relationship it makes me happy to see kids and parents with healthy relationships.
That woman is going to..She has to latch on to things to worry about. She was upset or something with M because Saturday he didn't bring my car back home even though there was no way for him to do that on his own. I had told him not to worry about it. But she still fussed. Then Sunday , after they got my car back, she was critical that we didn't "plan better" to go to his SIL's graduation from cosmetology school and party after. We both pointed out he had to go to get me at the ER and that by the time he got home and everything he didn't feel like going out again. and she kept fussing until M snapped that he had planned to go except I needed a ride from the ER. Then she was suddenly ok. I guess the issue was she thought he wasn't planning to go ... I don't know.
And today it's fussing over if we have enough tin foil and why don't we have a pumpkin pie for Thanksgiving even after I had said I knew I hadn't ordered everything for groceries and if she could make a list of things we still needed I'd make another order. "well I don't care I'm going to go eat a bunch meals then so it's not about me".
We need a phrase or something we can say when she gets like this that will, not shut it down, but that we can just repeat to try and end the conversation.
I also need to call work and let my manager know I'll be back to work tomorrow. I had Mon and tues scheduled off but since I had to miss Sunday and most of Sat because of the concussion I need to make up some time and work is short handed. and I know they think it's my fault for moving too fast. Which, I probably hit myself so hard becuase I was moving fast but even if I had been moving slower I would have probably knocked into the end of the fixture. Just not ended up with a concussion.
Regardless of whose "fault" it is, you're the one with the concussion askye. Take whatever time you need to be sure you're in shape to handle the effort of a workday, work can deal with it.
Also, you're short-handed and swamped with orders - I doubt there were complaints about you "moving too fast" when you were efficiently getting the fricking job done.

Yes! Congrats to your daughter on the job offer, too, Gud. That’s exciting!
Shingles vaccine complete!
Concussions need to be taken seriously. Listen to the advice of the doctors and save yourself from more issues later.
