Rosemary, who can't catch a break, is back in the hospital because her knee turned so painful. The doctors suspected Deep Vein Thrombosis which is serious likely after open heart surgery, but it seems that it's actually something called pseudo-gout.
So, not classic gout, but crystals of a different type that accumulate in the knee instead of the big toe.
She's weak enough that trying to get up with a bad knee makes her a fall risk, so they have her for at least another day. Thank goodness for good health insurance.

My son came home last night. They released him at about 4:45pm. In Boston. I'll pause, while the Somervillains imagine our commute north on Storrow Drive, and I-93. Two hours to travel about 15 miles. Two. Hours.
He's on two different antibiotics, an increased steroid dose, etc. The infection has to get and stay gone and we have to eliminate what we can of the inflammation typical of this IBD so he's in the best shape for surgery, which will probably be in September (no date yet).
He's glad to be home, even if he's on a liquid diet for the foreseeable future.
Cindy, so sorry to hear about your son. Do you know the comic artist Jeffrey Brown? He has a graphic memoir about the very severe IBS he has and how it put him in the hospital many times when he was your son's age. I think he also needed pretty major surgery for it as well. It's called Funny Misshapen Body [link]. I'd send you my copy but our books are all boxed up while we work on the room they live in. I'd be happy to order a copy from my friends' store if it's something you or your son would be interested in.
