She's never opened a delivery not addressed to her before, but for some reason she opened this one.
Maybe it just said "E. LastName"? That's happened with me and my brother (he uses my house as a mailing address, and we're both M. LastName)
Either way, it's beautiful, and I'm sure she'll love it even if it's not quite the surprise you were hoping for.
So far the trip to Italy has been a clusterfuck. I mean, I'm in Italy, so boohoo me. But seriously.
Uber got canceled last minute, so we ran out the door, so my spare shoes didn't get in the suitcase, so I only have black tennis shoes. Check-in was a clusterfuck, plus we had to get reticketed. Otherwise adorable dog took a dump in the security line. Flight out of Dallas was late, so we had to book it to make our international connection. Guy behind me hummed tunelessly for the first hour of the flight and nagged me to put my seat up for the meal. Couldn't sleep because seat was uncomfortable. Lovely long walk in Brussels to get to our connecting terminal. Arrived to find out that OF COURSE our luggage didn't make the connecting flight.
We have had a nap, and soon there will be food and family, and if Thespis has been appeased, maybe the luggage will arrive tonight.
Oh, and my hair elastic broke. Just fucking broke.
Ah, the glamour of international travel!
Did I mention here that my coworker just had to spend TWO DAYS in Chicago, trying to get home from California?
I'm sure some of you remember my multi-day journey to Dublin, that ended up being via Madrid. It was like a watch and post.
Any journey that ends up with you in Italy isn't a total loss, at least by my (vague and loose) standards.
What's a good toy for a 1-year-old? Great-nephew has a birthday party tomorrow, and we asked the parents what he needs, and they said "he likes toys...and the boxes that toys come in." Mmmmmkay. I have no idea what to get a 1-year-old, though!
My plan is to go to Target and read the age recommendations on the toy packages and just pick one, BUT if anyone has any suggestions, that would be great, too.
It is literally impossible to know what kids will want to play with at that age. But if he's walking or close to walking, any kind of push toy (like this) is a good bet. Plan or Melissa & Doug are both brands that make mostly wood toys if you or the parents are plastic-avoidant.
Anything that comes in a good-sized cardboard box.

Same! I hope your luggage happens soon.
