He said "I just LOVE stabbing people with needles!" (I asked "...is that what you said to get hired? What is wrong with your county's public health department???")
ION, I just started editing an article about female surgeons who are mothers, and how their domestic responsibilities affect their career. I'm only in the abstract, and I got to a sentence about how the authors divided the group into those who have sole responsibility for less than 5 domestic tasks, and those who have sole responsibility for 5 or more domestic tasks.
That's the point at which I realized the article is probably going to have a list of "domestic tasks" and I'm going to see just how many of them (other than childcare, of course) I *don't* do. I'm cringing already.

SPOILER ALERT THE ANSWER IS "WAY MORE THAN SURGEONS WHO ARE FATHERS"
(Not that I've read this particular study, but isn't that always the answer?)
Yeah, I've always thought the most unrealistic part of Greys Anatomy lately is not all the sexxxing and the extreme storms and bombs and miracle surgeries, it's how little having 3 kids and being a true single parent seems to affect Merediths availability to be a surgeon and go on dates and work whenever needed...
Of course all working mothers' domestic responsibilities affect their careers, but surgeons are a bit more able to afford paid help to assist with these responsibilities. And for sure What Jessica Said!

So far, this is accurate. Did you write this article???
(The abstract also concludes "...increasing numbers of mothers in the medical workforce may create a demand for more equitable distribution and/or outsourcing of domestic tasks." Uh, NO SHIT.)
My condolences, Fred.
Smooth convalescence~ma to your mom, sarameg.
How does any adult who's not disabled or royalty have less than 5 domestic tasks that are their sole responsibility?
Oh,Jeez, Fred. So sorry you have to go through this.
So I talked to the apartment manager. Good news: They've got a one-bedroom reserved for me at one of the other apartment buildings they run! Bad news: They need the old apartment cleaned out by Friday, which is kind of a problem since 90% of my stuff is fine, modulo a little smokiness. I figured I'd have another week to get everything set up.

Spouse/partner who does their fair share of the work? (Obviously doesn't apply to single people.)
