My first MIL actually told my mother quite sincerely on the night before we got married that I was clearly getting the better deal by getting her awesome son in the marriage. My mother was amazingly diplomatic and gently stirred the conversation in another direction. She was a piece of work.

Thanks, everyone. This isn't really new except for the actual threat, but there is always some drama from her around the holidays or birthdays etc because we don't feed the energy demon.

Holy shirtballs, sj. I'll often hyperbolically say that something is jaw-dropping, but this time my jaw literally fell right open. I never knew you've had to deal with this terrible person all these years--how much more amazing that she's even partly responsible for the existence of a gem of a man like TCG. I am so, so sorry.
