I just said that you're pretty. Even when you're covered in...engine grease, you're... No, especially, especially when you're covered in engine grease.

Life moves pretty fast. You don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.

Guys, my crazy day, let me tell you it. As you might know, I'm long term subbing 7th grade English at a school in a depressed neighborhood. This morning, we had 18 fights break out. 18 separate fights (although some seemed to be sort of linked) between 12 and 13 year olds! We went on lockdown and had to stay inside the classroom for over an hour until they got things calmed down. The head of the English department got punched and shoved while trying to break things up and she had to go home.

I had a tearful meeting with the vice principal yesterday, because I still have three hours that I can't get under control. I know the kids who want to do the work are being affected by the kids who are acting out. They want to hire me once I'm official (they have 20% subistitutes right now) but I'm not sure I can stay. Not because the fights bother me, but because I simply can't get the kids under full control. I don't know...they need teachers badly but the Vice Principal seemed decidedly unenthusiastic about me staying on.

It's a puzzlement.

"There are few hours in life more agreeable than the hour dedicated to the ceremony known as afternoon tea."

Scrappy, I honestly don't know how any does what you're doing. It sounds exhausting.

I cannot get into the swing of things this school year. Every morning I'm exhausted and then there is the added potty training for ltc making everything take longer. I don't know any of the kids or parents names.

Fandom means never having to say "But where would I wear that?"

Timelies all!

Wow, that's...quite a morning, Scrappy.

Fixed my clock so the alarm went off on time. Turns out the clock was off by 12 hours. I don't know how that happened, but I suspect Mr. S.(A bright curious child can be a good thing, but not always.)

"...and then Legolas and the Hulk destroy the entire Greek army." - Penny Arcade

I just went to use the restroom, and someone in one of the stalls was watching a video on their phone. It was someone - I think Rachel Maddow - talking about the bankruptcy of Trump Castle casino bank in the 90s.

It is LITERALLY an inescapable subject.

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

Phew, that is a lot, Scrappy. The day and the general uncertainity around your position and how you are doing.

Our wings are not tired.

Oh Scrappy, I do hope you are able to find a workable solution.

someone in one of the stalls was watching a video on their phone

I think the only videos I have watched on my phone are ones sent via text from people. In a stall, never.

A bright curious child can be a good thing, but not always.

True. It does help once communication is a bit more advanced because you know they get what you are saying. I have limited patience with the non-bright, so I was grateful that the kids didn't fall into that category. Maybe I would have adapted, but grateful I didn't have to.

I do have to say that my son started rolling his eyes way too early on things I would say that were totally supposed to be going over his head. The ability to use discrete double entendres was lost before I was ready.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Not because the fights bother me, but because I simply can't get the kids under full control. I don't know...they need teachers badly but the Vice Principal seemed decidedly unenthusiastic about me staying on.

Ugh, that sounds really hard, Scrappy. Are you better than the alternative? Probably. Is this what you need to be doing? Maybe not.

Yup.
