The Bush services have been on in the background. I've enjoyed the music, and occasionally will glower at the contrast in the first pew between real presidents and the pretender in chief. Haven't really heard any of the eulogies except W's.
I've made my packing list and hope to take some pictures the next few days while I am in snow country. Not a lot of snow, but a few more inches while I am there and temps staying below freezing. I won't be skiing, but the mountain looks inviting. [link] Maybe a brief brisk walk or snowmobile ride? It has been a while since I was in snow, so excited about that part.
One more post because in my email was a recipe for Cauliflower Latkes! [link]
Cock-eyed cake from I Hate to Cook
Is this what we always do when someone who used to be president dies, the Day of Mourning and lying in state? It seems weird to me, but I realize it doesn't come up that often so I wouldn't have gotten used to it, I guess, but it feels very ancien regime/divine right of kings
Enjoy the snow, Laura!
I would never have thought to put cheese in a latke, but cheese and cauliflower certainly go together. Hm.
My recent "Fandom old" moment was listening to a podcast talking about fic. They did the Trek zines thing, then skipped straight to the Harry Potter and lj strike-through Era. And I was all "offa my damn lawn" and had to stop listening.
This seems a bit more than I remember from the past - there has been the lying in state, funeral from the cathedral, flags lowered, etc., but I don't remember the National Day of Mourning with the government closing down.
Fandom old - I remember the first piece of fan fiction I came across - Dune fic ... in 1969.
Which one of us got the McSweeney's writing gig? [link] (Possibly NSFW. YWMV.)
That's literally "terrific"
I copyedit almost everything that goes out of my office and I recognize an unfortunate number of those. I think I'm especially annoyed by the misused apostrophes.
