I remember the crazy days. 500 posts an hour. Nubmer! Natgbsb

The urge to go home and sleep is STRONG. My boss who has been in the office with me all week is out. The day is gray. The custodian keeps wanting to talk.

Doesn't help that the work I really need to do is basically going through papers that I forgot about and involves sending emails to people that should have gone out months ago. Oooppps.

"...and then Legolas and the Hulk destroy the entire Greek army." - Penny Arcade

I've been keeping to myself and the Aged Parents have been keeping to themselves, so they decided it was probably safe for me to visit. I drove down last weekend, and it was really nice seeing them face to face again. They're both solid Democrats, which I'm REALLY glad of - I don't know what I'd do.

Anyway, if none of us drops dead I'm going to go down for Turkey Day and Candy Cane Day too, so it'll be the 3 of us.

I'm terrifically busy with my ennui.

I'm in one of those meetings where an insurance company lectures me about making healthy choices and not costing them too much money.

Dana, ugh. Those are bad enough when you can just walk away.

I look more rad than Lutheranism

I'm in one of those meetings where an insurance company lectures me about making healthy choices and not costing them too much money.

Last month (or maybe July?) we started the application process for life insurance and disability insurance. Tim was rejected for disability insurance within like 2 nanoseconds because of the combo of rheumatoid arthritis and having heart surgery this year. It look about a month longer, but I got a letter saying I was rejected for disability insurance because -- and this is the only reason they listed -- I am 10 pounds too heavy. And all I could do was shrug. Because, pandemic, you know? Yeah, I gained the quarantine 15 and I'm not too fussed about it because it's a goddamn pandemic. I would rather have not gained pandemic weight, but it is really really not a concern right now because there are WAY more pressing issues.

My letter said I could reapply in 3 years if I managed to lose 10 pounds. (It literally said "managed to lose," like "We don't think it'll happen, but give it a shot, Large Marge.") Insurance company, you are not my mother. You have to try WAY harder to psychologically devastate me about my weight. Amateurs.

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

My kids know about the buffistas and have free use of the internet but also find their parents deeply boring, as is normal for teenagers.

The 8th grader and I got to the episode of AtS a few nights ago where the kid in the comic book store geeks out at Angel about "there are chat rooms and message boards about you!" and I was all "Can confirm!" and he rolled his eyes at me so hard they almost fell out. So I can say with confidence that my kids are not lurking on any message boards where they might cross paths with me.

My family has plans to gather in NY for Thanksgiving. We'll all get Covid tests in advance like we did for our vacation in August, and the locals will do all the grocery shopping so folks driving in from out of state can quarantine.

We have a company-wide recommendation to make Election Day a no-meeting day so people can take time off, which is great except instead of canceling things all the Tuesday meetings are just being pushed to the 4th. Did we all forget how many people called in sick on Nov 9th 2016?

It's Friday and my only meeting today is in the afternoon. Since I already woke up early to go swimming that means I get to spend the rest of the morning reading fanfiction and pretending to check email, right?

Oh, fuck ALL of that, Steph.

Thrive to spite them

I am trying to figure out if there is going to be early in person voting in SC or not. I kept reading something that sounded like there was but no details. SC has no early voting at all. Under normal times you either show up and vote on Election Day or you vote absentee but only very limited people.

This year they have expanded absentee voting to anyone but you still need a witness to sign the absentee ballot. I would rather brave early in person voting if possible. You can't vote in person if you have requested an absentee ballot unless you go and do something to cancel the absentee ballot. So I'm kind of playing chicken with this.

Our wings are not tired.

I'll vote early in person as I need to see the machine record my vote. I don't trust the mail system although it worked wonderfully during the primary.

I'll be working the polls so maybe we will get to vote first!

The fuckery that's been going on at USPS has me really worried as well - I've had several first class letters take WEEKS to arrive recently, and a few packages that may have simply vanished.
