Yikes, shrift, I think you should stay in SF. Perhaps if the weather's good some of us could have a socially-distanced Turkey dessert on Saturday or something?
I think, counter-intuitively, airplanes are relatively safe because the ventilation is good. But you also want to be sure that people are wearing masks, and wearing them correctly, and god knows you can't depend on people for fucking anything.
So...yeah, holidays are going to be complicated.

Thank you msbelle!
I have definitely given up on any thought of visiting my family this Christmas (we don't traditionally do thanksgiving). If only because I'd have to board the dog for weeks, rent a place to quarantine, and then would want to leave after a few days! I fear the demand to visit asap after will be huge though, when I'll really want to be visiting friends and going on vacation and whatnot.
My mom and stepdad will probably be too cautious to do more than a drive-by, throw-presents-and-fruitcake-on-the-porch-and-wave Christmas. My dad will be like "I ain't got Covid yet, so where are we going to dinner?" (I will not go out to dinner, but I am willing to do carry-out and eat it at my dad's place.) Tim's family is too big for me to feel comfortable getting together. It's all going to suck.
I have an aunt and uncle who live near by. For many years we have had a tradition of going out to breakfast together on Saturdays. Last March we stopped.
Lately they have been trying to persuade me to start up again. I finally played the selfish card: "It is important to me that, if you get sick, I can be sure you didn't get it from me, or because of me."
That seemed to work. My aunt changed the subject.
We'll see how long it lasts.
I placed an order for some frozen and prepared stuff from Whole Foods to be delivered tomorrow for Rosh Hashanah. (I'd thought about getting some food from a restaurant that's not too far away that has good vegan options, where I'd have to go pick up the food because they don't have delivery, but my sinuses are acting up and I've been really dizzy and so getting stuff delivered seemed like the better option.) I ordered some kosher wine with the Whole Foods order, so at least there's that, too.
Yeah, DH was lightly trying to convince me to go to the mainland for my grandmother's funeral, and it's like, "I do not want to risk being the one to get someone sick."
