I gave feedback to the reopening plan for the schools here and I had 2 "what the actual fuck?" moments:
1)Apparently, while people who have travelled have to self-quarantine at home, other people in the household are free to go about their lives.
2)They're planning on treating classes as cohorts or families, with reduced distancing within that unit. But if someone tests positive, only that person has to self-quarantine. The rest of the class can carry on as usual. I registered my concern about this policy (as well as questions about staff who work in classrooms, but not just one class and substitute teachers)
school seems so fraught. I do not see how it can work.
I'm starting to try to get used to the idea that ltc may not be going to school in the Fall.
The thing I keep saying is that we could have had schools reopen, but it would have had to have been the priority. Instead, we chose restaurants, beaches, and bars. Choices have consequences, so enjoy that dine-in experience.
Our district is toying with the idea of full on k-6 in person, but 7-12 will be a mix of online/in person education. Part of the classes attend two days, part of the classes attend another two days, with a cleaning day in between.
Not sure about masks and social distancing. As miserably as my kids did with e-learning, I'm hoping for in person check ins with teachers at least once a week--I'm just not sure how to do it safely.
Ugh.
Not having school or daycare is a huge issue for so many. I haven't heard any good solutions.
Our district has said that they are considering several options and will let us know once a decision has been made. In other words, they don't have a fucking clue yet but want parents to feel like they're working on it.

YUP. Given the choice, I'd have happily gone without a haircut for another year if it meant investing in a way to provide safe childcare and schools.
I just remembered tomorrow is a work holiday! HOORAY!
We're having a county spike, and the Director announced we will REQUIRE masks from customers coming inside as of Monday. YAY. (The city is taking up a city-wide mandate at a meeting tomorrow; Dayton, also spiking, did it yesterday.)
Also it is 84 degrees in my office is there any wonder I am quitting.
