Timelies all!
Another normal(for us) day for us here.(Which of course included Mr. S having a meltdown when we wouldn't let him do what he wanted- which was playing with tennis balls in the house and drinking Gary's flavored water. So hard to be a preschooler...)
All of Los Angeles county was under curfew from 6 PM to 6 AM. Some cities are doing curfews for the business areas starting as early at 1 PM today. I think at the moment that is Santa Monica, Beverly Hills, and West Hollywood. We were supposed to work 4 PM to Midnight tonight at a jobsite near downtown, first we changed that to 1 PM to 5 PM, and then today I made the call with my staff that we are not going to that jobsite until things calm down. The national guard is mobilized and patrolling downtown LA and I feel that our unmarked white cargo van could be a target for both sids, looters and the police depending on how you look at it.
Welp, my town imposed an 8 pm curfew requiring us to stay inside. I'm going out into the back yard anyway. I'm sure no one will notice me breaking the rules.
The bright spot in this for me is the peaceful protests going on internationally: England, Wales, Germany, Italy, Denmark, New Zealand... and Iran, of all places. They all think Black lives matter.
Vallejo sent out a notice saying they were *not* imposing a curfew but that they expect people to be responsible and decide to stay home, basically. The rest of Solano County has, as far as I can tell, said nothing. We're mostly pretty rural, unlikely to be a hotspot. Some cars were set in fire over the weekend in Fairfield, but as far as I can tell not as part of a protest or even adjacent to one, just car fires for their own sake. I guess there was a march during the day but sounds like it was entirely peaceful.
Definitely a good plan, ND. Unmarked white cargo van could go a lot of ways!!
Hmm. We had a curfew of 5pm Saturday and Sunday (the one Saturday was announced at a press conference 15 minutes beforehand so basically nobody knew until it was already in effect; the one Sunday was announced sooner but not publicized until a 4:15ish emergency alert?) So far no emergency alerts about curfew today but I haven't thoroughly investigated local news who knows??
I just had to get off Facebook due to rampant awfulness of Western Civilization.
I just got the "Emergency Alert: Extreme" notification that we still have a mandatory curfew here.
I've been donating money to various places today and I'm going to donate to more bail funds. I gave a handful of change to a homeless dude on my way back from the hardware store.
My dad had surgery today. Everything went well and he's already at home, so that is good. It looks like he has Lyme disease and his doctor has been dismissive of his symptoms since last fall, which is not good.
I'm back to being afraid every time I open up the news that something newly horrific just happened. I want to hide under my bed right now
Yeah, I do not recommend the news right now.
