Farmer's Market vendors have no shortage of meat, msbelle. And we can always store for you in our chest freezer if you feel you need to (Chesty L'Chill).
Unless you live in a food desert,
I don't really understand how meat shortage is a problem? (Other than for the corporate farms and the animals they'll end up slaughtering, of course).
I had fish tacos and jalapeno margaritas. Super yum. We had a choice of chicken, beef, or mahi for the tacos. (plenty left over for lunches tomorrow) Spectacular guacamole, and they made grilled corn too. It was nice to have Tate's parents over. We ate in the backyard then moved to the driveway for sunset and more drinks. We made plans to go to the ice cream place where we can eat spread out in the parking lot for Mother's Day.
I had more of the vegan coconut curry I'm pretty sure would be served on rice, but I'm eating like a chowder. So good. Unveganized it with chicken since no protein all day. I happily watched my fav mexican food places sell out.
Besides the farmer's markets, a lot of local kosher & halal markets already work with small butchers & then of course penn Dutch, etc (I suspect a ton of crossover there, don't know.)
But then, I eat meat maybe once a week if that, so.
I'm looking at Donors Choose stuff in my neighborhood and there's one for binoculars for a bird watching project. That's great for distance learning, but what other interesting things are the kids going to be watching in high density neighborhoods?
Yeah we definitely have a lot of options for getting mest here and I know I'm privileged to have access to lots of non-meat protein options.
Like, whoever thought running to the store to grab some tp would be an issue? But people & leadership can go batshit & supply systems don't account for that.
Your nearest/only option is Walmart & it all falls down. And that's a lot of places,
I wasn't planning on it, but I probably could pull off shrimp tacos for dinner with what I have in my kitchen.
Shrift, I was going to mention that Alembic has a Cocktail Subscription plan where you can buy a week's worth of cocktails (that you pick up in cute little Mason jars).
Or you can just get a couple of pre-ordered cocktails and snacks on Weds and Friday.
Meat shortage is predicted to be due to the supply chain breaking down--shipping and interim storage, and working in some meat plants that are contaminated with C19. Things that don't have much to do with actual meat, but with getting it to consumers.
A farmer was in the news this morning for selling his milk directly to customers rather than pouring it out. I think that's a better plan, actually, than trying to ship food cross-country. I know, food deserts, but supply can be closer to consumer without the middleman making a profit off the shipping.
As for the criminals, I don't want them jailed. I want them confined in a condemned section of an abandoned inner city with the clothes on their backs, no food, no water, no phones, no credit cards, no money, and nobody knows where they are. The guards wear regular clothes and prowl around the buildings armed to the teeth, being scary and intimidating. I wanna see Mitch manufacture a hamburger from gutter dirt. I wanna see Jared conjure drinking water from...well. I want Miller to be haunted by dudes of color packing really big guns. I want there to be scary noises at night, and dirt, and holey roofs in the rain, and just live in those conditions for the rest of their lives, no access to soap and hot water, toothbrushes or toothpaste, clean clothes or shoes, dealing as their teeth fall out and whatever medical conditions they may have go untreated, and they have to scrounge and fight each other for food. Hey, no harm. Completely hands off. Justice.
Ooh. We could televise it Pay Per View with completely concealed and sealed cameras, as long as the location is completely secret so some Proud Boys don't mount a rescue or something. No Hunger Games though--no way to earn your way out.
Have I mentioned my love for Beverly? I'm down with the Justice plan.
When I had charge of a diabetic cat a couple of years ago, the best price for insulin we could find was at a Costco. I don't know the laws in other states, but in MA, you cannot operate a pharmacy without it being open to the general public, so you could get a dispensation from the security greeter and go in.
Since then, Walmart announced that they had lower-cost insulin, so it's worth checking out. For most things I'd avoid a Walmart visit, but when it's cheap insulin all the guilt is off.
