Can I still do grandparents? I guess each of my four came up with their own name? Because I had Grammy and Granddad, and Memere and Gramps.

Off-topic discussion. Wanna talk about corsets, duct tape, butt kicking, or physics? This is the place. Detailed discussion of any current-season TV must be whitefonted.
I'm still not sure what I want to be called by my grandchildren.
It was only 42F out when I got up this morning! Meanwhile I read where July was the hottest month every recorded. It was 55 inside the house so I have space heaters going now. I won't run them while I sleep. Supposedly it will get to 77 later. This ends the Otter Lake weather report.
Aw, Mitch McConnell fell at his house and fractured his shoulder. I guess there's a tiny bit of karma coming back at him.
As a friend of mine said on Twitter, falls are a known risk of having no backbone.
Because I had Grammy and Granddad, and Memere and Gramps.
Oooh, Memere. Is that French, Fancy or Nickname?
Matilda has a Nana and a Papou.
Since JZ is Greek she had a YiaYia.
I had a Grandma and Grandpa, and my sole maternal grandparent was just Grandpa Wynn.
Ugh, one of my Kenyon friends is a expat teacher in China. She's been off bike touring around this summer and scratched the side of her nose and it started bleeding.
Went in to have it checked and they took a biopsy.
Basal cell carcinoma and they just (spoiler font for squeamish) removed the left half of her nose. It just happened so quickly. It's treatable and she can undergo reconstructive surgery, but it's still horrifying.
Oooh, Memere. Is that French, Fancy or Nickname?
French! (Canadian.)
Ugh indeed, David. Best wishes for successful treatment.
My grandparents were Dad Dad and Bammie (because apparently I couldn't say Grammy when I was little) and Grandpa and Grammy on my mother's side. My mother goes by Bubby (her choice) with my nieces and nephews.
Just got back from a weekend camping on the Cape with no connectivity to hear about the latest shootings. Jeebus.
Both of my maternal grandparents were gone before I was born, but my mom's stepdad (the only dad she ever knew, as her dad was killed in WWII when she was a baby) was Grandpa Whipps, which is technically his last name, but he was rarely called by his first. (Most people called him "Whipps" or "Whippsy"). His second wife was just "Flo" to all of us Grandkids. Paternal grandparents were Nana and Grandpa.
Yikes, David! Best wishes for her!
I had "a talk" with my interim supervisor on Friday. Long story short(ish): Immediate Supervisor retired and wasn't replaced, Dept Head became immediate supervisor instead of one step removed and those parts of my Supervisor's job that are still being done are being done by me (after an insulting annual review and a pittance of a raise), Dept Head resigned a couple weeks back (on no notice, so we assume he was encouraged to resign), Program Mgr type guy is interim leading our dept. Meanwhile, they hired someone else in my dept, not to replace Supervisor, but technically a higher position than mine (they never made me aware that the job opening changed from Former Supervisor's Job to...Basically the Job I Was Already Doing). So I gave him some background on the promotion that disappeared when current Co. bought us and the fact that I have a problem with them hiring somebody to come in higher than me to do half the job I was already doing. Interim Supervisor listened attentively and promised to look into it. Meanwhile, I am still submitting resumes and not holding my breath that things here can be fixed...but I'm holding out hope.

I was mostly off line for several days, which was a good thing because I really didn't need to sit and stare at the coverage.
Epic, I hope common sense prevails.
DH is doing chores like mad around the place so he can get back to Florida. I made him a list of 7 things he had to do before he could leave. He has put up the mailbox, which was a pain with all the rocks. I had told the mail carrier she could just drop anything for me next door in the meantime. She had suggested just putting a bucket at the curb. He also put the cover back on the breaker box, which was on his list since he took it off! Mostly I am trying to keep him here as long as possible so the kids can do stuff at the house to surprise him.
