On the weighted blanket, yes, get the heavier one.
In theory, for each person, the size is not super-important (once we're into blanket territory). The basic idea is that we don't want people putting themselves in danger from too much weight, so if you're spreading it out over your body, then that 10% rule of thumb holds (it's a fairly made-up rule of thumb, anyway, not based on research, so if you're sufficiently able-bodied that you will get it off of yourself if you start having trouble breathing or stop getting circulation to your feet, you can worry less than a little kid, or a person with more limited mobility or sensitivity)
As to weight being comforting, there are times when I'm too brain fried and jangly to drive, and H drives. And then I'm anxious because I am not driving. Laugh if you must, but I have a Traveling Bear. He's a traditional German turn of the 19th Century jointed bear, hard-stuffed and covered in curly mohair, which is mostly goat hair with some silk fibers mixed in, so it feels like real animal fur.
When I say hard stuffed I mean he's not squishy. His head is really hard, like a skull with fur and skin over it. His body gives a little, but is mostly solid. His arms, legs, and head are all jointed and poseable, and he travels with me when I'm not driving. His weight sprawled across my front, his hard little head tucked under my chin with his nose on my collarbone. The solid weight of him on my body and in my arms is *immensely* helpful with my not-the-driver anxiety. So I do get the whole thundershirts for dogs and weighted blankets for people thing. It works, in some mysterious way.
It's wonderful to have something that works to calm the anxiety.
I have a full size 25 lb weighted blanket. So the weight is distributed across but it is still heavy to move around . I finally moved it down here but haven't gotten it on the bed yet. I need to figure out how it's going to work since Matthew doesn't need it and he gets hot so easily it wouldn't ever be comfortable for him now.
I had my last day at work today. It was a really good day. The managers got me cupcakes. The shoe dept got me flowers, a balloon and a card. And one of the other sales associates who has been kind of lead in women's got me a card and a gift card. I almost cried a few times I was so touched.
And then our IT support person came in doing some kind of tweaking to the registers and when she heard it was my lar5 day she hugged me. I've seen her 4 times I think but she had nice things to say and said she'd miss me. I've even had customers I don't think I've ever really helped tell me they are going to miss me.
When I left I joked with my assistant manager that if things didn't work out I couldn't even come back because they've already filled my position & they wouldn't fire my replacement (who used to work at the store and then transferred and now is transferring back) . And the assistant manager said "I would. In a heartbeat. If you want to come back say the word" I know she really wouldn't but it was awesome to hear.
But then I came home and learned the fridge door got open and had been open all night and all day so I have to throw out a bunch of food and go grocery shopping again. Which I wasnt planning on doing.
I've been in a deep depression pit for a while. Starting to come out if it, maybe. At least I'm out of bed and I cleaned out the sink today, that feels like a big win.
Catching up. Not sure I'll be able to catch up in Natter.
Connie, I'm sorry about your eye troubles. I hope your brain quickly learns to compensate.
meara, how much fucking metal did you get in your leg?? I had two plates and a bunch of screws. I'm down to one plate and I want that out too, but I'm sick of surgery.
That little dog did more damage to you than a whole volcano did to Zen.
I ain't scared of no (extinct) volcanoes.
Congrats on the new place, Hil! Buying a house is a hassle but owning your own home is great. imho
Congrats on the new job, askye! And how awesome that everyone at your old job loves you so much!
I'm really sorry about Sammie, Andi and Daniel.
The Keto diet seems to be the same as the old Atkins diet. Very-low-carb. I lost a bunch of weight easily on that diet once, and felt great. I'm thinking of trying it again. I recently got diagnosed type-2 diabetic and I'm having a lot of trouble managing my diet and my sugar. I might do better just cutting out simple carbs altogether, than trying to eat some undefined amount "less".
My doctor sent me for a neck-artery ultrasound, after making a deal with me that if the results didn't come back clear I'd start taking a statin. Well, my body may be a mess but my arteries are fucking clear as a 25-year-old's. The doctor was startled. I'm sure it's because of the fish oil I've been taking for decades. (It sure isn't because of my great diet.) So, y'know, fish oil for everyone! Or that algae supplement, for y'all vegans.
I also placed an order for Butcher Box today. Maybe I should not have done; I have a small freezer! I better eat everything in it before this box with 11 pounds of meat arrives. I should dig out the slow cooker too.
It feels good to be back.
Y'all.
I just emailed my boss that I'm taking a sick day.
It's Sunday. When I went to update my time sheet I realized it's Sunday.
I just got a free day! Suck it, Daylight Savings Time. Who cares about your hour.
I'm going back to bed.
Zen, so good to see you here. Yay for the free day! Love when that happens.
We've been doing the Keto/Atkins thing. Well I have more than Brendon. Good energy and lack of hunger are definite plusses. Also diabetes is a huge factor in my family and I have held borderline for decades because of watching my diet. I wish it were doing more for me in the weight loss area, but it is better than anything else I ever try so sticking with it.
Wonderful about the arteries. I also had a zero calcium score and got my PCP and Cardiologist to shut their traps about my cholesterol. It may be higher than the range they like, but nothing is sticking! I've also taken fish oil forever, and eat all the good stuff like avocados and nuts too.
Good oils ftw! Olive oil too. Funny, a diet that lets you have olive oil but not the bread you dip in it...
We alternate between olive oil and avocado oil when we cook. Avocado oil is great for higher temperature cooking.
Lots of love to you, Zen.
