Home schooling? You know, it's not just for scary religious people anymore.

Spike's Bitches 49: As usual, I'm here to help you, and I... are you naked under there?

Spike-centric discussion. Lusty, lewd (only occasionally crude), risqué (and frisqué), bawdy (Oh, lawdy!), flirty ('cuz we're purty), raunchy talk inside. Caveat lector.

Why did Darth Vader cross the road? To get to the Dark Side!

Ugh, I'm sorry to hear that, Jess

Although less pain is good, so there's that, but pain is pain

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

The kids are being AWESOME. I'm mostly just feeling sorry for myself because I don't know how to make non-internet friends. Moving out of Brooklyn was so good in so many ways, but I really miss having a network of mom friends to lean on. We have a great sitter, but it's not the same.

"There are few hours in life more agreeable than the hour dedicated to the ceremony known as afternoon tea."

Yay, awesome kids! Making new friends is hard. I wish I had a network of mom friends too. Luckily texting vw all day long keeps me saneish. But we don't live close enough to help each other out.

Sometimes I think I might just move up to Vermont, open a bookstore or a vegan restaurant. Adam Schlesinger, z''l

Well, that was a bizarre argument. Someone said that Stevie Wonder being billed as Little Stevie Wonder was an example of how people treat disabled adults as kids. I said that wasn't a great example, since he was an actual kid when he was called Little Stevie Wonder -- he stopped using that name when he was about 14 -- and there were a bunch of other popular young performers around the same time who used similar stage names like Little Richard and Little Eva. And the guy who posted the original comment then told me that I'm full of crap and that he doesn't have time for my games. Um, OK? The hell?

Ugh. New blood test results came back, after the ones last week were weird, and they're still not good. The doctor is waiting for a couple of other tests to come back before saying anything definite. From googling (which I know I should not be doing at this point), it looks like the best case scenario is that I'm anemic. (However, NOT the type of anemia that's caused by being deficient in any of the vitamins or minerals that are sometimes hard to get on a vegan diet, because of course that would be too simple -- those types of anemia would have different test results.) Worst-case scenario is kidney disease or leukemia. So, hoping for anemia, I guess.

Every now and then, I think I might actually be a little odd.

Hoping for a good resolution, Hil. Anemia~ma, then?

Jessica, I feel so bad for you! Shingles are evil.

sj, hoping you find a good sitter, and local mom friends.

For me it doesn't help that all the parents I meet are at least a decade younger than me.

Remember that the frontier of the Rebellion is everywhere. And even the smallest act of insurrection pushes our lines forward.

I'm mostly just feeling sorry for myself because I don't know how to make non-internet friends.

Our wings are not tired.

Oh, for fucks sake. Malki has GOT to be lurking here.

Ha! Love it.

For me it doesn't help that all the parents I meet are at least a decade younger than me.

Having the kids when I was 38/40 I was often the age of the grandparents. Most of my friends are at least a decade younger than me. With the kids most parents I met after they were in school at open houses and school functions. I volunteered at school too which resulted in meeting more of them. DH coached and met many parents at practices and games.

Learn from my school volunteer experience! Don't do cafeteria! It is depressing to see the waste. I found literacy tutoring much more rewarding. Watching kids when they 'get it' and start to figure out reading is a joy that never gets old.
