I've been out of the abbey two days, I've beaten a lawman senseless, I've fallen in with criminals. I watched the captain shoot the man I swore to protect. And I'm not even sure if I think he was wrong.

"You should never say bad things about the dead, only good… Joan Crawford is dead. Good.” —Bette Davis

I mean, in the original Clark was in league with the Shadows, became President under questionable circumstances, and shepherded in an era of authoritarianism/fascism and xenophobia. He was just competent and mostly unseen rather than a spotlight-chasing buffoon.

It's less the space Trumps that concern me - agreed that we already had that with President Clark - it's how the divisions within are handled that worry me: now as red/blue; mask/anti-mask; etc. I'm not seeing much in the way of "the better angels of our nature" in the world today and wonder how that will play out in space. JMS had that conflict in the original, but the good guys always won. I'm less confident of that now.

Friends don't let friends read "Atlas Shrugged"

Well, it turns out that Legends of Tomorrow and Batwoman have started a new series; on Wednesdays. I checked them out and wasn't all that impressed.

Riverdale is kind of back ... started yesterday as Rivervale and it's quite dark and things don't seem to be going especially well for most of the crew. It's narrated by a fairly grown up Jughead.

"There are few hours in life more agreeable than the hour dedicated to the ceremony known as afternoon tea."

Is anyone watching Astrid & Lilly Save the World on Syfy? It’s kind of cheesy, but in a fun way. And there have definitely been several Buffy references.

Especially the most recent episode which has people dealing with their worst fears and so far features a psychotic clown and a dodgeball game.

Why isn't everyone pelting me with JOY, dammit? - Zenkitty

I've got a couple of eps on my DVR. The ads caught my attention so I started recording, but haven't watched any yet. Glad to hear a rec.

This week's Buffy reference on Astrid and Lilly Save the World, "gas leaks". They totally explain why everyone is hallucinating their worst nightmares.

I must obey the inscrutable exhortations of my soul—Calvin and Hobbs

Would Around the World in 80 Days go here? It’s on Masterpiece/PBS, and it stars David Tennant. It’s based on a Jules Verne novel, so arguably SF. Very into the Amazing Possibilities of Technology (1800s flavor).

"I yam what I yam and that's all what I yam," -- Popeye

Around the World in 80 Days

The people are pretty, the scenery is pretty, many of the scenes are interesting, but somehow it didn't come together well for me.

I liked the casting of Fix and Passepartout, and the expansion of their stories.

Yet overall, somehow...meh.

I’m enjoying Phogg’s character arc so far. (I’ve watched through episode three.) and I don’t recall reading the book, so it’s all new to me. But I’m a Tennant fan, which may be coloring my view.
