Ugh. I don't even know what to do. I keep alternating between rage and sadness with all the Trump bullshit. It's infuriating the number of people who can't tell the difference between legal immigrants, illegal immigrants and refugees. The number of people saying "Good on Trump for kicking the illegals out" in regards to the Muslim ban is just mind-blowing. (Obviously, illegal immigration isn't cut and dry either, but the fact that it's all the same in these people's minds is just flabbergasting.)
Gud, I have no idea if it would do any good with your friend, but Andrew Sullivan had an eye-opening and heart-breaking conversation on abortion with women on his blog back in 2009: [link]
When I look at the conservative feed at Blue Feed/Red Feed, I noticed that a good number of articles seem to support the immigration executive order because it upsets liberals rather than the merits of the policy itself. I wonder if the liberal feed was similar while Obama was President. I like to think that wasn't the case, but I don't really know. I don't feel like I hate conservatives, I just don't think their policies will be good for the country. I also have been very disappointed that they defined themselves as against everything Obama rather than articulating their own solutions.
I find people being in favor of (or against) something simply because it would make the other side angry to be incredibly infuriating, petty and self-destructive. It pisses me off when anyone does it, regardless of their political leanings.
I don't agree with most conservative views, but I don't hate them as a whole (I have plenty of hate towards certain individuals, though.) I think a lot of their views are short-sighted and wrong, but I believe most (though certainly not all) are legitimately trying to do what they think is best for the country.
On the flip-side, there are certainly liberals who piss me off by starting off with a good point and then somewhere along the line taking off into crazy land and completely undermining themselves. (I feel Michael Moore does this a lot.)

Yeah. That's frustrating. The thing that frustrates me the most is when liberals say stuff that isn't true. I'm like, Dude, you don't need to resort to alternative facts to make your case. It doesn't help.

Exactly. Because now your opponents don't have to counter your real points, they can just discredit you by tearing apart your falsehoods.
I am engaging with people on Sen. Ted Cruz's post about Sally Yates. It is going about as well as you might expect.

There has also been a similar series of letters on the Atlantic blog, Notes.
I knew Yates was going to get canned as soon as I saw her statement. No way Voldemort would stand for that.
This is an ignorant and fundamentalist twist. Shame on you, Drew. You should be better equipped to disagree, by now.
Sorry, was this meant to be a joke, or were you being sincere? Because I don't think Drew needs to be shamed for sharing his thoughts on a religion he was intimately involved with most of his life. And I can tell you that he's incredibly respectful to the many Christians in his life, including my mother, his cousin who is a Presbyterian minister, and many of our friends.
Man, today even my apolitical boss expressed some concern. For one thing, we are understaffed and the hiring freeze is interfering with his ability to get work done. This is unacceptable.
I'm having trouble concentrating at work because OMG THE DEMOCRACY IS FALLING. Hard to concentrate on whether we need a permit to install a replacement backup generator on an island in Puget Sound...
I am too tired to research, but
"In the constitution it says that the president has the right to ban immigration for a period of time in order to protect its citizens by executive order."
That's not right. right?
