I know I'm about the only person watching Emerald City, but there was a bit on the last episode I wanted to share. Glinda is very straitlaced, provides female advisors to the Wizard, said advisors quite nun-like. The Witch of the West runs a brothel, and her brand of magic is far more sensuous. Dorothy runs into the boy Tip, who is being held captive by a witch in the countryside, who insists he takes a potion every day. Dorothy helps Tip escape with his friend Jack, but when Tip goes longer than a day without the potion, he becomes a girl, and it turns out she was born a girl, and she has no idea why the witch wanted her to be a boy. She has spent all her life as a boy, and she's not at all happy at discovering how the world treats girls.

She meets Glinda and Mistress West, who offer her a choice: join Glinda's order, learn anything she wants to, never be touched by anyone, possibly become powerful, or go with West, experience pleasure and forgetfulness. Tip sneers at both of them: "So, you're saying that my only choices as a girl are to be a nun or a whore?" Glinda and West shift awkwardly. West then shrugs: "We get to sleep late?"

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

I'm watching Emerald City, though I haven't gotten to the most recent one yet.

That is not how a bill payment service is supposed to work, Dana's bank.

I guess that is some consolation, flea. I like the librarian superhero plan.

Love the sign, Glam!

Hooray, dance!

I forgot I was gonna tell y'all, got to quote the Ideal Gas Law at my coworkers, which is always fun for me. It came up because my thermos made a loud popping noise and then I couldn't get the lid off, so we were discussing why that would be. Best guess is that I had the hot soup in there for too long, and it cooled down enough to decrease the pressure in a significant way. One guy was trying to posit expansion.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

Following the plot point of The Marvelous Land of Oz which is the second book in the series.

100 Year Old Book Spoiler: Tip is Ozma, rightful ruler of Oz. Kidnapped as a baby and magically changed into a boy.

I was wondering if the plots were in the books!

edit: I suspect the Witch of the West is different in the books.

"You can't put a price on the joy of not giving a shit." -Zenkitty

just discovered that our bank's bill payment has been sending things a day or two late. As in, a day or two after the due date.

WTFFFFFF

This is like when I realized that my bank gave me an "online payment" option that would cut a check and mail it on the day I selected to pay a bill. So if I wanted to pay my rent on time, I had to take the mail delay into account.

I'm terrifically busy with my ennui.

The previous bank would say, when do you want it to arrive, and you chose the date. This bank says, when do you want to send it? So then you have to open a stupid calendar and play with the dates until it's arriving around the right time. EXCEPT WHEN IT DOESN'T.

Love is stronger than death and harder than sorrow. Those who practice it are fierce like the light of stars traveling eons to pierce the night.

Shir, it is good to see you here.

Thanks for the birthday greetings, Shir and Matt, and anyone else I haven't thanked yet.

flea, I'm sorry about the job. I'll second or third the superhero librarian idea.
