Juliebird, that sounds terrible. Can they do that? I hope you get a better situation soon. But landlords who are off missionarying do not sound like what you need, even assuming it's legit.

Internet says in Santeria, you eat the chicken after sacrificing the blood, and in ancient Judaism, mostly priests ate the meat.

IIRC, in ancient Greek paganism, certain portions of the meat were burned as an offering for the gods, but the rest became a feast for the worshippers.
