(Although my dad told me last night that we have to root for the Indians because they're an Ohio team and "rivalries don't matter in the postseason." I generally root City>Division>League if my own team is out of it and everything else is equal (though I don't think I could ever root for the Detroit Lions, just because the years with Jim Schwartz as coach and Suh on defense permanently soured me on the team) but I've never cared for the whole "rivalry" thing. I like my team, other people like their teams. Why should I hate them and try to make them feel bad if they lose?
I pulled for the White Sox in 2005 despite being a diehard Cub fan for as long as I can remember. (That being said, the number of White Sox fans I've met who are ridiculously spiteful when it comes to the Cubs makes me feel a bit of satisfaction whenever the Cubs are playing better than the Sox.)
The sad thing is I'd be pulling for the Indians this year if they were playing anyone else.
