Yeah one of my traveling-myjobindustry groups on FB posted about the FLL thing, and I got an internal email about it too, in case any of our people were there. So scary. But it sounds like they got the guy pretty quickly. And it wasn't past security, it was in baggage claim? Not that I think the TSA is all that, but god forbid someone got a gun through security, then we'd all have to strip naked to get in!

Did the escaped prisoner here yesterday make national news at all? He busted out of prison in Rhode Island, came back here where he's from, robbed a bank, and got caught! Busy day.

That is a busy day! No, didn't hear anything about it. Though I wasn't super with it yesterday either.

Our wings are not tired.

Apparently the guy had arrived on a flight from Canada and had the weapon in his checked bag. Took his bag to the restroom, loaded and fired 3 magazines (or whatever they are called) into the crowd in baggage. Then just sat on the floor and surrendered. No shots fired by law enforcement.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Yikes.

The status is NOT quo.

I panicked a little given how close my dad and cousin and good friend T are to the airport, but they are all fine. Yet another senseless act of gun violence. I'm so done.

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

Wow, that is weird. And terrible, but...that's like something that would happen in a movie for convoluted reasons.

Our wings are not tired.

We are at FLL so often between traveling ourselves and dropping off and picking up loved ones. Nothing in existing security systems would have prevented this so far as I can tell. No real way to guard against bat shit crazy combined with firepower.

Thrive to spite them

I think people thought allowing guns in checked baggage would make things safe or at least was a compromise from not allowing guns on carry ons.

This proves that there is not a safe option except not allowing guns on planes at all and I don't see that happening.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

But in the baggage claim area, you can also just walk in from outside, so it's only as safe as anywhere else.

brillig

In my airport, baggage claim is right by the doors to the street, it's where all the shuttles collect and drop off passengers.

Ok, so I tried to buy concert tickets on Ticketmaster, and as of 5:01 there are no tickets available (except premium tickets starting at $350). I am continuing to try, but for how long should I keep refreshing?
