Natter 75: More Than a Million Natters Served
Off-topic discussion. Wanna talk about corsets, duct tape, butt kicking, or physics? This is the place. Detailed discussion of any current-season TV must be whitefonted.
sj, what a total douchenozzle.
I am not protesting today because we are packing for camp and there is SO MUCH LAUNDRY. But after today I don't have to do kid laundry again for three weeks! Woot!
I am impressed with anyone protesting in the NYC area today because it's close to 100 degrees and humid and awful. I hope everyone remembered sunscreen and lots of water!!
Oh yeah, Jess labled him perfectly: Douchenozzle. I'm sorry you had to deal with him.
I'm in total admiration of everybody who protested.
There's a protest here at 4:30, which means it'll be hot, but not as hot as in other parts of the country. If I can figure out a way to get there that doesn't involve driving in circles for hours looking for parking, I may go.
Although I also want to go see the Mr. Rogers documentary...
Zmayhem went a' protestin' this morning.
Another huge SF crowd on a very sunny day. Fortunately cute doggos galore to raise our spirits.
One preacher made the mistake of counter-protesting at JZ and he got a load of scripture barked back at him.
Then he got out his bullhorn and went Full Old White Asshole Sexist and told her go home to tend to her hearth.
That did not go over well at a protest march in San Francisco.
A ferocious roar of probably 300 people turned on him shouting him down.
I went on what I thought/hoped was a date but I think she just wants friends. Which is a bummer. I think I will bake this afternoon and then go to the soccer game.
Wish I'd been there to see it, Hec.
ugh - I heard an interview piece on NPR either yesterday or Thurs - they were talking about Abortion - some pieces were about how abortions in countries where it is illegal are virtually all medicine now, not surgical. I specifically remember her talking about the most useful device in countries where abortion is illegal is a cell phone so that women can find who has pills to induce a medical abortion. They also discussed how abortion rates do not go down when it is outlawed. How the vast majority of women in the US who have abortions do so for economic reasons.
if anyone knows what program this was -let me know.
and I posted it and found it. The World from yesterday.
Finally home from Texas. Longest week ever. Will my eye ever stop twitching? Probably not.
Sorry, lisah. Yay, for being home.
I fly out later today. Back home for the final stretch of wedding prep. Family stuff remains complex here in Otter Lake, but I remain Switzerland. I'm disappointed that I accomplished so little on my list while here the last 10 days, but I've decided that maybe I just needed some rest and am calling it a success.
Also, weather be weird. Forecast for Otter Lake is a high of 94 today, in the Adirondack Mountains, while the high in Delray Beach, in Florida is to be 87. When I went to bed last night at 10:30 it was still 79 here. I had the windows wide open and a fan pointed at me. People across the land today gonna be sweaty.
People across the land today gonna be sweaty.
Oh, heavens was I sweaty at the March yesterday. There was the suggestion from national organizers to wear white. I had to dredge up a blouse I used to wear at office jobs. But it's a bit thin, so I wore a cream colored silk tank style camisol under it. Then I got to the rally at our local Diversity Coalition; they had white t-shirts with their logo on it for everyone to wear so that when we all went to the March in the next town over, we would represent our town. Three layers are about two and a half too many in 87 degrees plus high humidity. I ended up marching on foot with the group for about two blocks before going back for my car. That worked out ok, because I caught up with the back of the line, and offered a ride to a delightful older woman from Kenya named Lina who said, "So many White people came, they care about us."
And she said something that is a good message for all of us who are beginning to weary of the hate. When I said, "I used to be proud to be American," Lina said, "The whole world loves America. We are going to fix this, and we will be proud of America again."
EDITED TO ADD: I originaliy came here to suggest for those who are feeling exhausted, that it may be useful to select one or two areas to focus on rather than trying to maintain outrage at every aspect of what we are facing.
