I have a word problem for you- although I just killed the thread with my dental woes.
My boss had a dinner at a conference with several other people and her husband. THey would not split the check. The dinner my boss ate (which is the only part that is reimbursable) is $45.50. I am supposed to calculated the amount of the tax and tip is supposed to go with that. The tax is easy because I just looked up the tax rate. The tip is not. They didn't get separate checks, but they did split the bill between credit cards. So my boss paid for her husband's dinner and her and her husband's drink, and their part of the tax on her credit card at $132.23 with a $27.00 tip. What portion of the $27 tip should I allocate to the 45.50 meal and how to I explain reasoning to the accountant.
Sophia, I would use the % tip on the whole thing and apply it to the reimbursable portion.
Throw money into the air, kick the table over, and run.
What portion of the $27 tip should I allocate to the 45.50 meal and how to I explain reasoning to the accountant.
I'd do $9.10, which is 20% of $45.50, since it looks like they tipped $20 (or rounded up) on the whole amount of $132.23. (20% of 132.23 = 26.446, and they tipped $27. 20% of 45.50 = 9.10.)
t edit
I totally ignored tax in my calculations, though. Unless 132.23 was the amount after tax.
t edit again
But I stand by $9.10.
I would just do 20% of $45.50 for the tip because that is the max tip allowed by our travel guidelines.
ETA Hahahaha this is actually my job!
Thanks guys! They just started having AAs fill out these forms for our bosses instead of the accountant, and this is my second one!

I fell down the last three stairs at 2:30 in the morning, when on the way to take a dog out in the freezing cold for his upset stomach. Landed on my side.
Owwww.
a lot of customers are hugging me and wishing me well, which is sort of surprising and really touching.
Aww!
Alas, it is the 3 sibs against step-dad and rather than have my mother haunt me I have to try and protect him. They are cruel horrible people, and they don't recognize it, and if I lose them all doing the right thing, so be it.
Ugh. I am sure you are doing the right thing, though.
I MADE IT! Luckily, my afternoon included a delightful meeting (seriously) and a couple of bite-sized tasks. My to-do list is still overwhelming, but I'm just not going to worry about it.
I am mixing some sports in with my house and office work this weekend. Going to go to one of DH's basketball games tomorrow. I haven't been to any this year. Then Sunday instead of having the Superbowl party at my house I am just going to make snacks and go to the local pool hall to drink and watch DH and friends/family play. Pool hall doesn't serve food so people can bring food or have delivery. This is the first year in a long time that I haven't watched a single pro football game all season. Go Eagles!
eta: usually they play pool here, but the table is in storage like the rest of my life.
fuck, y'all.(another fragment to show punctuation is important)
That's exactly what I though t as I read it, erika!
I wish I could make people's lives easier and see everyone instead of having to work.
msbelle for President!
Congrats, Strix, that sounds awesome!
Tooth-ma, Sophia!
Yikes, Scrappy! Hope the soreness stays mild and leaves quickly!
Good luck with the family drama, Laura. You have such a good heart, I have to assume that your protective instincts are correct and I hope your sibs shape up and act right!
That must be gratifying, Amy!
My to-do list is still overwhelming, but I'm just not going to worry about it.
This seems like the appropriate attitude on a Friday afternoon.
