I'm so sorry, Suela.

I am a proponent for moving into places sight unseen but vetted by Buffistas! Thanks to Kate!
Yeah, that's awesome, but incredibly stressful!
Changing jobs and moving are muy stressful under the best circumstances. Anxiety jumping into the mix just makes sense, really. Your being super rational and making good decisions, tommyrot.
It's funny that my autocorrect recognizes murderbiscuit but not tommyrot.
I'm so sorry about your mom's friend, askye. That's gotta be hard on all of you.
these people need to get you an offer letter in writing chop chop, especially if they're demanding you work for them in 2 weeks. Ugh, I have anxiety on your behalf.
So stressful, tommyrot. I would be as worried as you appear to be, because until you have a written offer, you cannot rely on it. Do NOT sign a new lease until you have the written offer.
In other news, the thermometer mounted on my back fence, which is NOT in full sun, claimed it was 114 here today. I am skeptical. But it was hella hot. Still hot in my house, with all the windows open and fans on.
We are basically having a rolling wake for my BIL. People start arriving every day around mid-afternoon, with food and booze, and then leave or stay, and other people stay, and when it gets cool enough we go out on the back deck and drink until bedtime. But we're out of room in the fridge, and there's only one bottle of rose left. (It's too hot for red, and most of the whites are chardonnay, which I don't like that much.)
We are getting better: I only saw my sister break into sobs twice today.
Yeah, they won't process my application for the new apartment without an offer letter.
On Tuesday I'll call them again and tell them I need the letter Tuesday (or possibly Wednesday, though maybe I won't tell them that) or else I'll have to postpone my departure and push back my start date.
Movers are supposed to grab most of my stuff on Friday (one week before I'd move). I think I can easily postpone that.
Also, glad to have my anxiety validated. Or something.
You can definitely hold firm on needing three weeks to give notice and move states, none of which you can do without a formal offer. Good luck!!
It would be very strange indeed if there were not anxiety involved with moving and starting a new job. I hope they get the letter to you early Tuesday. I typed Monday and had to correct. Sorry the holiday weekend is making it another delay!
May the move and new job be awesome enough to erase the memory of the anxious days.
Sending along wishes for peace and comfort to your family, Suela. Also fanning some of my cold weather that way. Yikes! 114!
Sorry about the delay, Tommy. I remember at Lowe's it took them forever to go from 'you're hired' to having the actual paperwork.
