Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

That sounds like they want to hire you!

this mess was yours / now your mess is mine

Teppy, that sucks. Especially when the stupid people blame you.

I'm not even sure the stupid author is blaming me; I think it's the higher-ups in the Editorial Office that are thinking I'm not doing my job, when I followed our procedure (including sending follow-up emails when the authors don't respond) EXACTLY. There are some articles where I lag behind by about a day, but for this one I was totally on top of it. But they're claiming they don't see proof that I was.

I sent the screenshots, but no response so far (other than "send the files to the author"). I admirably resisted replying with "You mean 'send the files to the author FOR THE FOURTH TIME'?")

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

That sounds like they want to hire you!

They did say, "We look forward to having you join the team!"

Maybe just a miscommunication on their end. How do I politely say, "Um, do I have the job?"

I think the best way to phrase it is "What are the next steps in the process?" (Although there are other Buffistas who are better with this sort of thing, so don't take my answer as gospel.)

I haven't trusted science since I saw the film "Flubber."

tommy, I wouldn't do anything indicating official acceptance of this possible offer until you have benefits info.

How about, "What are the next steps in the process? I could start three weeks (or possibly sooner) after receiving notification that you are hiring me."

Job is 6-month contract to hire. We've agreed on an hourly rate for the 6 months. PTO would be the only benefit (I think) until I'd go to permanent. But yeah, gotta find out what the permanent benefits are.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Would you be moving? You might want more time than that?

Yes. My boss said two weeks notice would be OK so I could have a free week to move. I've been assuming I could find an apartment through online sites so I wouldn't have to visit to look at apartments.

I'm also assuming I can arrange movers during the three week period. Or else rent a truck and hire movers to load and unload it.

Am I assuming too much?
