This day can just end now
First, I have been up since three stressing about a work change in reporting structure and a meeting to clarify expectations. I have been incredibly happy in my job the past few years, and was really scared. The meeting turned out well, but then in another stressful meeting I got a text from my aunt saying that a) she could not reach my mother, who had called her and b) she was in the ED with her husband my uncle! Got a call from uncle two that my mother has lost sight on one eue and was going to ask a neighbor to take her to the dr. Then, I since I work where the ED is, I go to the ED, and spend three hours with my uncle and aunt, and trying to reach my mom. I reach my mom, she found a ride, but needs another tomorrow. But then the Drs come, and talk to my aunt and uncle- and then since I am a colleague they sort of chat with me privately and let me know it is pretty serious. Then- giant thunder rainstorms and trying to get the bus home, even though I fell bad leaving them in the ED waiting to be admitted, because I am pretty sure it is going to be a 24 to 48 hour period before a bed opens up. And the dog needs to be let out, but my mom can't do it because she has lost her vision
I think I need to buy a car ASAP
Aw, Waffles.
Mmm, wine and tater tots. Hmm. I have wine. I do not have tater tots. Or any approximation thereof. Alas.
Oh, Sophia, that sounds miserable.
I was going to whine about how hotel rooms are either not quite cool enough or two degrees past polar, but that's pretty petty, by comparison.
Oh Sophia, that's very bad day. Is there any explanation for your mother's vision loss? Much ma for everyone, you included.
(((Sophia))). That is a lot of day.
Oh no, Sophia! I hope you have wine and tater tots or whatever else might be comforting in this moment.
Sophia, in the short term, is lyft operating in your area? That could be a great help. (Disclaimer: I took my first uber/lyft in Anchorage because SIL's knee got crunchy & the boys whiney after 5 miles with 2 to go, so I went along for the ride. Of course we got a guy from the base and bro & SIL & him got all into base assignments and military life talk & they all exchanged #s at the end of a maybe 10 minute ride. So.)
I have wine now! My mom gets shots in her eyes, and it appears to be bleeding from that, but she has to go to a location with a better scope (she is rural) to see if it is that, she needs to not move or lay down and it will drain.
Also lyft operates for me, but not my mom. I found a local taxi service that might help her, though. Weirdly it was my incle in the ED who knew about it!
eta. I also know my go-to cab company would go help her if I called, even though it would be eleventy gabillion dollars. I have been taking them for ten years and they know me.
Oh, good. That'll get you through the short term, even for eleventybillion.
I need to have some hard conversations with my parents about long term, though now they are extremely independent. Though if mom would embrace her new iPhone, it'd be great. Trying to get her to use the mapping and voice memo features, oy.
