Simon: Captain... why did you come back for us? Mal: You're on my crew. Simon: Yeah, but you don't even like me. Why'd you come back? Mal: You're on my crew. Why we still talking about this?

Because books.

I think I missed Trixie Belden -- it was all Nancy Drew and Cherry Ames for me. Definitely learned the words "titian" and "roadster" from Nancy.

When we lived in a high-rise in NYC it happened - someone's pet python or something got into the building pipes and scared the fuck out of more than one tenant before it was captured.

Oh my good god.

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

What I heard back in '79 is on the first of the month you should yell "White Rabbit!" at each of your friends the first time you see them. Or else call them to do it.

On June 1st, a friend of mine dropped off a rabbit in a box on our front lawn. We didn't notice the box until the evening, by which time the bunny was gone.

Life moves pretty fast. You don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.

I was taught "rabbits, rabbits, rabbits" on waking up by my mom, who learned it from her mom. From her 23 and Me analysis, my mom could not be more Anglo-Saxon/Irish if she tried, so it tracks.

Today has been a day of annoyance. My mammogram made me late for my doctor's appointment and I had to reschedule. I don't even want to see the doctor but she won't renew my hypertension meds until I come in. Grumble.

Fandom means never having to say "But where would I wear that?"

Timelies all!

Went to dance practice for the first time in a month. At this time of year we practice outside. I forgot two important things: a) Put my hair up in a bun to keep it off my neck.(It's hot and humid out there), b) Bring bug spray! Luckily I was able to borrow some before I got too badly bitten.

Today has been traumatic. Start with a failed filsystem, take cats to vet, get peed on by Loki, come home, Loki somehow knocks out tooth scheduled to be removed in early August. And freaks out in the process. And though I called the vet right away, I didn't process much, so I need to call them back to see if he should be on meds since broken tooth. Oy.

Why isn't everyone pelting me with JOY, dammit? - Zenkitty

Ugh, that is a helluva day, sarameg.

I remember some talk at some time recently about plastic straws (and their badness); this company is reintroducing paper straws, except more betterer than the ones that went away when we were kids:

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

Sorry about the traumatic and annoying days. I am annoyed that I am still at work and starting to feel like I will never finish this damn report. Sigh.

Loki will cost way more than my root canal (under $300 without the filling.) But I have insurance and banked old hsa funds for me. Without insurance, my root canal would be slightly more than his likely 4 extractions+ blood work. As a datapoint for earlier conversations.

Gawd I'm tired. Not even looking forward to the trip, just too much going on.
