Random question. Did anybody watch the revamped Dirty Dancing that was on last night?
I'm not a fan of the movie but my sister was watching it when I got home so I saw the last 30 minutes. Fine, whatever, as cringe-worthy as ever. But they tacked a scene on at the end that - I just can't even think what they were intending. What they accomplished was undermining pretty much every good thing about that movie. I'm not even a fan - my sister was hopping mad.
Basically,
a 15-years-or-so-later, and it's Baby sitting in the audience watching a production of Dirty Dancing, directed by now-a-Broadway-star Johnny. Okay, whatever. Then they chat and...her kid runs up, followed by her generic country club husband and she explains that she's a stay-at-home mom but she still dances - salsa at the JCC once a week! So, basically, the whole entire awakening and growth and exploration of self led her...down exactly the path she was on before the movie. But it sure did give Johnny a career boost!

brenda I only watched a few minutes of the movie, had no idea how it was framed, and bowed out. Then I read about the remake. They missed the all the points of the movie, everything that made it what it is. Part of me wants to watch it for myself and the rest just wants to watch the actual movie and pretend this remake never happened.
Timelies all!
Healing~ma to your brother, Consuela.
Woo, four day weekend! We'll be at Balticon this weekend. (Hopefully we'll get to see hippocampus in more than passing.)
Oh HELL no, brenda! Am more glad than ever that I didn't watch it. I will continue to pretend it never existed.

Oh, it was so bad. All of it. But the ending was surreal! Whoever revised the script was so very wrong, on so many levels.
Nuh uh. Thanks for the warning. DD and The Big Easy dvds usually were our takealongs for H's and my weekend getaways. We never actually *watched* them, waving the case around and quoting from either or both films was usually enough to instigate shenanigans.

and all patience, fortitude, and wisdom to you, Kat.
Woot! Scrappy. May all steps go well.

I did not watch it, but I was enjoying reading everyone's reaction on Twitter last night.
My personal Dirty Dancing story: I can't remember how the conversation started, but one time my father referred to it as that movie about the father/daughter relationship. Aw, dads.

Aw, that's so sweet! And he's not wrong.
Fingers crossed for your brother, Consuela.
I am on hour 35 of an Aleve-resistant migraine. The headache isn't actually too severe, but I've had it pretty much continuously since I woke up Wednesday morning. Very annoying.
