We are Buffistas. This isn't our first apocalypse. -- Pix

Political conventions should end, I need my sleep cycle reset.

Indeed, it's one advantage of being on the West Coast. I was able to watch Bill's speech only a few minutes behind and still get to bed relatively early. And WOW what a great speech. I feel a little embarrassed: I didn't know all that stuff about Hillary's early career before he got elected. I'm way more excited and impressed by her now -- and it wasn't as though I thought she was unqualified before!

Also the fight song video was awesome. And the Mothers of the Movement, which made me cry.

In other news, I'm covered with mosquito bites from going to camp. And I still have tie-dye on my fingers. But it was great fun. Every city should have a publicly-owned camp in the mountains for cheap vacations with swimming holes and endless pancakes.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

hivemind - as I head to bed, can people share their preferred places to stay in NYC. Not for me, a friend is going next spring and she asked me.

I usually Priceline and only sometimes regret it. My actual favorite place to stay is a Holiday Inn Express, I think - there are several. But I am cheap and like mass-market.

The more I learn, the more I realize how little I know.

preferred places to stay in NYC

I stayed at Hotel Indigo in Brooklyn, and liked it well enough. The primary draw for me was the proximity to several subway lines, including the A train -- which made it easy to get from and to JFK airport.

this mess was yours / now your mess is mine

Goodness. One of my exceptionally entitled male friends (white, cis, straight, able-bodied, advanced degrees and very good job) posted on FB that he is sick of the people who say things like "if you support Trump, unfriend me." His wide-eyed disingenuous stance is that "I embrace and LOVE the differences between myself and my friends! If they support a different candidate from me, I LOVE that! If something as meaningless as an election can end a friendship, I posit that it was never a friendship to begin with."

Only someone who will be minimally affected by Trump's platform -- and can't FATHOM how it might destroy the lives of people who aren't like him -- can sit there and say that with a straight face. Daaaaaang, son.

I am really thinning out my FB feed this election season, I tell you what.

Cats to become a rabbit should gather immediately now here

Aargh, Steph. Mine is mostly friends of friends, but it does make my blood boil.

One of my friends posted that he could no longer stay silent-- that if you have LGBTQ friends, and were posting FB memes supporting Republicans, you could expect your LGBTQ friends to be upset with you and says something. Basically- don't say you love me, a gay person, then post things in support of Trump-- if you do so you are voting against me, a person you say you love

One of his (white straight male) friends responded with "No we are not! You voting for Hillary is a vote against me (many of my personal beliefs). Thank God for the 3 branches of government! Achieved rights can not simply be brushed away!" and then "Vote at every election, keep marching, keep fighting... I'll be supporting your rights all the way!!!"

WTF?

Also, an all white production of "The Wiz" is weird, right?

Friends don't let friends read "Atlas Shrugged"

I haven't been watching the Democratic Convention consistently, but I read up on it each morning (and why, today, with the Post's announcement of Hillary's nomination, were the only pictures of BILL Clinton and a smaller one of Bernie Sanders?). However, I liked this article and I love the photo.

I’m responsible for my own happiness? I can’t even be responsible for my own breakfast! (Bojack Horseman)

One guy on a friend's page was all, "YOUR FEAR MONGERING TACTICS WILL NOT WORK ON ME," and I pointed out how nice it must be to face fear on a facebook post instead of in your daily life, as it is and would be more so for women, minorities, LGBTQ folks, immigrants, and the disabled.

He said, "you don't know me."

I didn't respond, but I was definitely relieved at the truth of that.

Also, on a separate post, a beer dude is mansplaining why it's dumb to have raised hackles at beers brewed/marketed for women.

I can't even with today.

"I remember when they eventually introduced that drug kingpin who murdered people and smuggled drugs inside snakes and I was like 'Finally. A normal person.'” —RahvinDragand

Don't feel bad, I've lived in Arkansas all this time and didn't know a lot of it. I think part of it is that at the time they didn't make a big deal about efforts she spearheaded to avoid accusations of nepotism and local conservatives making a stink about a woman overstepping her place. Hillary took a lot of heat from Bill's opponents in the 80s for not being a Donna Reed-style housewife. And getting the job done was more important than getting credit for it, which is perhaps the most basic and essential difference between Clinton and Trump.

Coding and Sleeping

Have a meeting with my boss this afternoon. Sounds like I may be getting a minion for a little while.
