I had to pause the show and hit IMDB, because of my overwhelming "It's That Guy" reaction.

Not thrilled with it so far. IMHO having the whole cosmos run by mundane and questionably competent office-style middle management only works in satire like The Good Place, not something meant to be taken seriously.
I thought it was more Kubrickian than Brazil. Those 70s designs /colors/computers reminded me of Clockwork/The Shining. Other parts reminded me of the Jude Law sections of Grand Budapest.
I liked it for a set-up. Depends on what they do with it.
THAT'S WHO THAT WAS
Cosigned. Thank you! It was bugging me where I knew him from but not quite enough to figure it out
Do you think the TVA is meant to be taken seriously, Matt? I'm kind of hoping not. I don't like the whole One True Timeline premise, gonna be hard to get past that.
If it's not, the people filming it have some real problems with tone.
I never considered that it should be taken seriously, and I think the tone is just fine; deadpan is the default acting mode for both the leads.
"Oh god this really is going to be a solid hour of Previously In The MCU isn't it."
It was a surprisingly heavy Clip Show vibe for a pilot episode

They had to have a way to make Hiddleston cry.
I liked it a lot. It could easily suck long run but as a setup i thought it was good.
I don't mind the universe being run by middle management in the MCU. Feels part and parcel with living planets. The Marvel universes are their own satire.
I don't know if I've even seen Brazil but i described it as 12 Monkeys vibes so I definitely think the Gilliam was strong.
Well, I enjoyed it, but then again I always struggled with Loki becoming "good", and his claim that he didn't like hurting people was contradicted by his obvious glee in zapping the enforcer woman.
Still, the visuals and concepts were pretty fun. I'm on board.
I do kind of wonder why Gugu Mbatha-Raw wasn't cast as Mobius, though. She could have done it.
