The Mandalorian goes to a lot of effort to make each episode seem self-contained, while also having a season-long story arc. TFATWS feels more like a six-hour long movie than a bunch of individual episodes. The Marvel Netflix shows had the same problem but much worse, because they had 13-episode seasons.

This is a really good Twitter thread (reposted on Tumblr; I'm sharing the Tumblr link because I don't understand Twitter or how to share a Twitter thread with the tweets in chronological order) about the costume design differences between Steve's Captain America uniform and John Walker's Captain America uniform: [link] .
That was good!
Ep. 5: I enjoyed almost every minute of that. Okay, I'm a little irritated by there being one senator in charge of every evil/self-righteous thing the US or world government does, but other than that, I liked it. I'm impressed that they made me most sympathetic to Walker after he murdered a sympathetic character, and I'm glad Sam really got the spotlight for motivation and conflict and meaning.
It was... I liked it.
Oh okay, one thing: the Raft? a) we have only ever seen that used as a political tool to contain dissidents, so weird overtones there, and b) he seemed pretty well contained in prison until Bucky came along. But that's super minor. Oh, so much was good.
Bucky saying he was right-handed made me laugh harder than it probably should
That thread on the Walker costume is terrific! I knew I hated the design but it’s so good to have why I should hate it explained!
I love a good training montage.
Also, I assume that what's in the case Bucky brought Sam from Wakanda wasn't Sam's repaired wings -- or wasn't JUST Sam's repaired wings, but also a Captain America suit. Which I ALSO assume, since it's from Wakanda, is like Black Panther's suit and will be able to absorb and then discharge kinetic energy.
Also, Sharon Carter: Power Broker or no? Did she really just sent Batroc to give bombs to the Flag Smashers, or did she set Batroc (and the Flag Smashers) up? I genuinely can't decide.
I'm still not on board with the idea that Bucky needs to "make amends." He was victimized and used as a weapon for decades. Making amends implies that he, James Buchanan Barnes in his right mind, did horrific things that require amends, and that is emphatically not the case.
That “you weren’t amending, you were avenging” was a good line, though.
Ah, fair point.
I agree, Teppy, but HE thinks he needs to, so, then you can either point out that he's not actually breaking out of the basic paradigm, just pointing it in the other direction, or you can argue with him about whether he should even feel guilty about any of this. And I think we all agree that his therapist was...kinda shitty, so nuance wasn't ever going to be the thing, and maybe Sam is coming at it from "Look, dude, you're starting to think about feelings. Good job. Lean into that." and hoping he can get there thinking it was his own idea...
At least, that's the fic I would write.
