When did formal mourning periods pass by the wayside? Small touches like black-bordered letter paper hung on for a while, but that just may have been for very formal families. I think I've seen pictures from the 40s and 50s of men with black armbands. Was there just too much for women to do, to spend a year withdrawn from society? Never mind the year or so in Second Mourning etc.

Because books.

Just a guess, but I would imagine after WWI, there wasn't time for it, and too women had too many responsibilities with so many of the young men dead. I think for the higher classes it probably hung on a little longer, but I think that's probably always true -- they would have had the means for a separate wardrobe, etc.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

I am waging an uholy war to get medication today. You know, so that someone medical treats my pain instead of me stabbbing myself to relieve the pressure. This has been going on since before 8. I don't know what to do, but I want to do rthe responsibile thing and have nurses and docvtors take care of me, But my neuro is on a retreat and everyine else is scared,

I'm in exhausted, in so much pain, and considering unwise ways to distract myself from the head and shoulder pain.

Life moves pretty fast. You don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.

ita, have you tried marijuana? Apparently indica strains are good with nerve/muscle pain. You can get it in the form of hard candies which are slow-release. I haven't tried them, but I hear good things. Pretty easy to get a card if you don't have one, or maybe you could ask someone you know with a card to pick you up some.

A dress should be tight enough to show you're a woman but loose enough to flee from zombies. — Ginger

Amy, yeah. We'll see what happens later tonight. Good thing I have a very relaxing yoga class at 8; I think I'll need it. And a glass of wine.

ita, the MJ suggestion is a good one, but my god, I feel so badly for you, and I wish I had superpowers, like healing powers or at least teleportation so I could blink over and help you.

Pumpkin spice Hershey Kisses. I did not need to know these things existed.

I hope in the hours since you've found some healthy respite, ita.

I dislike having meetings run by people in the late afternoon who don't know how to keep it on focus or end it. I just wanted to go home...
