I have a friend who is in the hospital and will be for awhile, she's pretty sick. She loves romance novels, and I know nothing of romance novels. Can I get some recs for new titles? She isn't likely to have anything that has come out in the last couple of months.
I can't think of anything recent, but if she hasn't read the Vicki Lewis Thompson "Nerd" series, then those are really fun. (There's no real order that you have to read them in -- they're thematically linked, but they're not the same characters or a continuing story or anything.)
Congrats to Steph and Doctor Otter!!
Amy, that's a good question. I think most of the covers I've seen are bodice rippers, if that makes sense?
Excellent news, Steph!
My first visit with the new therapist went well. She seems to have the right mix of engagement and objectivity that I need. She has a nice firm handshake, and she seems smart. I see her again next Friday. She is familiar with my previous psychiatrist, and agreed that maybe I should go back to him and go back on that med that worked for me before. So I'll give him another try.
Zoe Archer's historicals are a lot of fun (and not Regency) -- Wicked Temptation is the new one. Karen Ranney's Scottish historicals are great, and I think she has a new one out.
Donna Kauffman writes smart, funny, sexy contemporaries -- Half Moon Harbor is the newest. Christie Ridgway also writes lighter contemporaries.
Shiloh Walker writes contemporaries with an edge of suspense, and they're meatier than a lot of other books -- much more novel than simply romance. The newest there is Deeper Than Need, I think.
Allyson, if they look historical to you, I can give you some more historical recs, too.
Thanks! That's an excellent start. I'll pick these up and see if she likes these or not, and I'll get a better idea of what she likes. Getting a mix of historical and contemporary isa good start.
I knew I came to the right place.
Does this mean they'll be bringing you on as an employee, or are you staying contract but with shinier terms?
Still contract, but more guaranteed hours (not quite double my average month currently, but close) and a higher rate.
That's fantastic, Steph! They are lucky to have you.
