Nana korobi, ya oki. (Fall down seven times, stand up eight.) ~Yuzuru Hanyu/Japanese proverb

Thank you juliana, brenda, and Zen. I have bookmarked and pinned your awesome ideas.

Father's Day was great. I started off by watching an episode of Daredevil while I folded and ironed clothes. Then, met the family at a Tex-Mex restaurant for brunch, one of our favorite places. Afterward, I took my father to the local botanical gardens and they just happened to have their annual rose show, one day only, so we really lucked out. I dropped dad off at home after arranging to take in a movie next Sunday. (Mad Max, it will be my third viewing.) Then, toddled off to do the chores I didn't do yesterday, namely the grocery shopping.

Now, I'm just sitting with the fan blowing on me (I don't use the AC if I can help it, it really racks up my energy bill) debating having some kind of tasty libation (over and above the mimosa with brunch.)

I hope all the dads, and folks with dads who were able to celebrate with them, has had as good a day.

a boxed set called Ace Adventures

I love Ace so much. I know people diss Happiness Patrol, but I love the use of music in it. I love Sylvester McCoy's Doctor and his love of music (another wonderful part of Silver Nemesis).

edit: love love love, maybe I'll listed to some Lady Gaga.

Good Lord, Talons of Weng Chang is a 3-disc set. Look at all the yummy extras from the BBC.

"It didn't taste good. It tasted soooo horrible. It tasted like....a vodka martini." - Matilda

Recent events and Father's Day brought me to write something on Facebook. I thought I'd repeat it here.

During the summer of 1963, my father was sent to manage a meat packing plant in South Georgia while its manager recovered from a heart attack. My mother, sister and I spent six weeks down there with him. I spent my days alternating between the motel pool and reading the three books a day I could check out of the library on a visitor's card. While my mother is from Tennessee, I had spent my life in a lily-white Chicago suburb

After dinner, we often went to the Dairy Queen for ice cream in the still withering heat. We stood at the window labeled "White." Around the corner, there was a less prominent window labeled "Colored." One night, one customer after another in our line was served, while two black children waited patiently at the Colored window. My sister or I may have asked why those children didn't get their ice cream. My father grew increasingly angry. As we got closer to the window, my father told me, "Ask them what they want." I did, and my father ordered their cones and gave them to them.

As a father, it was his finest hour.

"I remember when they eventually introduced that drug kingpin who murdered people and smuggled drugs inside snakes and I was like 'Finally. A normal person.'” —RahvinDragand

I went out for lunch today at the lesser of the two local Thai places (but the one that's open on Sunday) and ordered a dish called Evil Jungle Prince, which seemed to live up to its name as I've been feeling queasy all afternoon.

Compassionately intolerant

Ginger, that story brought a tear to my eye. What a lovely memory.

Every now and then, I think I might actually be a little odd.

Ginger, thanks for posting that. I needed a reminder of why I still have some faith in humanity.

brenda, those Bandlettes look like a great idea. I'm going to try them.

Connie, looks like I'm off to B&N!

I already walked 5020 steps today! I think that's my record for any day not including airports.

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

Ran my 5k. The "chocolate at the finish line" was disappointing (a mini energy bar) and the line was long for champagne, but my time was okay (for me, especially considering I haven't really trained as such). It was just a much bigger event than I am used to - something over 1000 entrants just in the 5k, and there was also a 10k and half-marathon. If I do it again I'll know what to expect, I guess.

Then I cam home, face timed with Mom and Dad separately because Dad is off gallivanting with the Geezers (they all got matching t-shirts, it's pretty cute), and napped for a couple of hours.

Trying to convince myself to do something that is not napping now. It's an uphill battle.

Those half-tees look intriguing, but I'm more likely to wear the tank-top version around the house on its own. On the other hand, I can do the same thing with a sports bra, but the neighbors would probably be less annoyed by something that's more obviously outerwear if I stepped outside.

I am the fly who dreams of the spider

Oldest son has been accepted to bro a 30 day program. But he also has a court date for July for a dui. Either way, I'm glad that he'll be gone for a bit and I can actually visit my family without issues.
