I've been perusing Venice Beach hotels, and I realized I was feeling uncomfortable about staying at them. Not from feeling too small-town or anything like that, but lacking in fabulousness. Which sounds gay-er than I mean. Too frumpy. Dress it up as I may, I'm still a fat over-50 woman who lives in Utah, and I feel like I'll stick out like a sore thumb in some chic, semi-boutique hotel on the beach in LA.

Nana korobi, ya oki. (Fall down seven times, stand up eight.) ~Yuzuru Hanyu/Japanese proverb

Snatching a few seconds to say hi and commiserate with folks.

Zen, I feel for you. Good thing it was a flat rate. I hired Two Men and a Truck for one move and one of the movers kept taking water breaks and laying down! I ended up paying much more than I expected. I should have complained to the company, but the slacker kept asking me not to because he was afraid he'd get fired for age discrimination. I'm too easy.

Ginger, that is terrible! And when I hear all the news about the subsidies for the ACA possibly being cut out, I just want to scream, because of the way it effects people I know. Here in Wisconsin it would be a huge hit as we didn't take any federal funds to supplement it.

I started using a Fitbit yesterday. I walked 9000 steps for the day, about 7000 of them just in my building. The thing is huge like whoa. I'm going to lose a lot of weight working here.

Why did Darth Vader cross the road? To get to the Dark Side!

I've been perusing Venice Beach hotels

Is the goal to be right by the beach? Like Hotel Erwin? If so, yeah, those hotels are likely to be spendy and pretty spiffy. And may well be full of Beautiful People. But they would have the advantage of being right there. If you want more urban funk (and probably more noise and more grime) I think there's a hostel right by the beach as well.

Rest assured that the average Venetian is not super hipster, they are just people. More tats than Utah, more street people too. But the beach is by definition a casual place, not a fashion statement.

If you want a less hipster environment, you can pick a hotel on the east side of Venice, which is a more residential, less beachy neighborhood, but then you are looking at a bus, car, or bike ride down to the water.

The goal is to be on the beach. I won't have a car, and I'm not planning on wandering anywhere. I really want to spend a couple of days listening to and watching the ocean. I'm looking through Travelocity, so the truly spiffy places may not be there. There's one called the Inn on Venice Beach that doesn't look too bad.

I have been to Venice Beach, I know that they embrace the weird. I guess the creeping invisibility of age and body shape is begging to weigh on me.

Edit: Yeah, Hotel Erwin looks a bit out of my range. Venice Suites looks pleasantly funky, though all the available rooms face the city. I guess I'd just have to sit on a bench somewhere.

2nd edit: And I hadn't noticed the dates had readjusted themselves on the deal calculator, and what was a reasonable 2-night stay is actually an unreasonable one-night stay. So time to find a cheaper ocean.

Ha ha, it's funny when I discover that my transfer is being considered pretty much a done deal and we are now trying to find a replacement for me, and also that I probably will be spending a lot of time in the Bay Area this summer training.

I mean, they're not wrong, but at some point they should loop me in on this, is what I am saying.

I feel like I'll stick out like a sore thumb in some chic, semi-boutique hotel on the beach in LA.

Assuming that people are judging me is part of my anxiety issues. I don't know if it will help you to remind yourself that nobody pays as much attention to you as you think they do, or that if they were a big enough turd to judge you on sight, you probably wouldn't care about their opinion anyway.

I started using a Fitbit yesterday. I walked 9000 steps for the day, about 7000 of them just in my building.

Nice!

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

I think I have gotten all the stuff I was supposed to do yesterday done. As I suspected, no ill effects from the one day delay that I can see.

Fandom means never having to say "But where would I wear that?"

Timelies all!

My shoulders have been sore all day. First it was just one, then the other started hurting too. It seems to be muscle soreness, so I will slather myself with Ben-Gay and try not to be molested by Nova.(Ben-Gay affects her like catnip, but x 10. Cats is weird.)

"Faded like the lilac, he thought."

Also Kane and Toews beards are awful! They should not grow beards!

I love their awful awful playoff beards so much! I also think this tradition is hilarious for people who only tune in during the Cup finals, and therefore only see hockey players in full lumberjack hipster mode.

Ha, that's great about Darby's mojo. I think it's awesome how deeply superstitious we all are. BUT IT WORKS. So.

That's a great story about Mrs. Timonen. He was really a high point for me last night.

Yeah, I'm thinking also my health may improve now that playoff season eating is over.

And yes, shrift, I think possibly looping you in on your own transfer might be eventually necessary.

I remember the crazy days. 500 posts an hour. Nubmer! Natgbsb

I only manage around 2000 a day.

Did a bit more today because I went to lunch and then did errands after work. If the risk of spending money wasn't so high, I would go "shopping" more to increase my walking. I kinda hate walking around my neighborhood or driving to a park to walk alone.

I hate driving somewhere to exercise. Even the gym. It offends my sensibilities in some deep-seated way that I haven't fully explored. Fortunately, I have a nice waterfront to walk along nearby, and paved trails further afield (that would take me to the gym, even). I will drive to get Walter to a place where he can run off-leash, because he definitely cannot just go out my front door. And I'll drive to participate in a race or suchlike.

And yes, shrift, I think possibly looping you in on your own transfer might be eventually necessary.

Nah, she'll just intuit when she needs to move across the country.
