Angel: I appreciate you guys looking out for Connor all summer. It's just—he's confused. He needs time. That's all. Fred: Right. Time, and some corporal punishment with a large heavy mallet. Not that I'm bitter.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Pretty!

Days shrink and grow cold, sunlight through leaves is my song. Winter is long.

Spring is here. I have a little electric oil rad in my bathroom, because the forced air never reaches that corner, and life's too short for an icy toilet seat. I unplugged and put away the rad this morning, took down the storm window and opened it up. We've actually got the bedroom window that faces on the woods open with the fan pulling in cool air, and the box fan in the front window pulling the cool through the house and exhausting the warm. Is comfy!

One of the best decisions we ever made, when H yanked the elderly, ugly shrubs from in front of the house, we offered the azalea as a wedding present to the neighbors. Now we get to enjoy it in all its glory amid the garden across the street, and we don't have to clean up after it. Their red geraniums and rhodies are amazingly healthy and gorgeous.

Our containers are in. Most of the herbs overwintered, including, for the first time, the Russian sage. And the wire baker's rack, discarded when the relatives cleared out a deceased neighbor's house, has taken up residence on our porch. We spent pennies at Home Despot for slate-patterned ceramic floor tiles for the shelves, and the mended Buddha rests there now. H found a matchstick shade *precisely* the width of the piece, I whitewashed it yesterday before we hung it, and it looks good as a backdrop. I may take it down and freehand some bamboo and some brush-speckles of brown and blue. Or, not.

I need to scrub the pollen off the furniture and floor. Maybe this afternoon.

So pretty, sarameg! I love the washtubs and the cat pot holders.

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

Butternut squash fries and beet hummus for lunch. Not bad at all.

Fandom means never having to say "But where would I wear that?"

Timelies all!

Back from the party. Mostly people I didn't know, or haven't seen in a very long time. Other than some hearing loss, my great-aunt(by marriage, so I don't get those longevity genes) is in great shape.

In a bit we will go meet Gary's mom for dinner.

Nana korobi, ya oki. (Fall down seven times, stand up eight.) ~Yuzuru Hanyu/Japanese proverb

I started a balcony garden again this year for the first number in a while; I hadn't had the spoons the past few summers. This year I decided I wanted to change things up a little so I'm trying some perennials out in one of the larger pots to see if I can get them to winter over, hydrangeas and some ground cover in one pot and another that includes rhubarb and strawberries along with pansies. Just have to wait and see what happens.

Rebecca, of course stupid Mike is at that concert.

My transplanted lilies of the valley don't look so hot, but I'll give them a while, and luckily, there are plenty more where they came from!

Punishingly Intricate

I know a lot of people at that concert, of course! Evidently, Prince just brought the Mosbys, our city state's attorney and her husband my city councilman, out on stage with him.
